The Ferrari 488

Ferrari is about to launch the most radical variant of the 488 GTB. It is estimated to have more than 700 CV and a much lower weight.

Supercars come with a series of performance features and tuning that make them completely radical vehicles, but some brands still want to go even further. As is customary with this type of company, they don’t know where the limit is, and this philosophy pushes them to surpass themselves again and again with an even more impressive supercar. Ferrari is a clear example of this, since everyone knows that the brand is incapable of holding back the desire to create more radical versions of existing models, something we are very grateful for.

Several Cavallino Rampante pass through the hands of Italian engineers to receive something more than a simple nut-tightening. This happens with the V12 models with front-mounted engines and with the V8s of outrageous -and beautiful- sound. On this occasion, and just as happened with the 458 Italia, it is the turn of the 488 GTB, one of the latest creations of Ferrari.

This is not the first time the letters GTB have appeared on a model from the brand, which eventually led to GTO, and they correspond to Gran Turismo Omologata. The 599 GTO and the 250 GTO surely come to mind instantly, but it is no surprise that this nomenclature is used again to refer to the track version of the 488.

Ferrari has a tough challenge ahead, which is to overshadow the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and the McLaren 720S. The engineers at the firm have not lost a single second, and several test mules have been spotted running around the vicinity of the Ferrari factory. The bets are safe and it is estimated that the firm will manage to extract more than 700 CV from the twin-turbo V8 that powers the 488 GTB.

On the other hand, the brand has also carefully worked on the vehicle’s aerodynamics, with the aim of improving its cornering and achieving even greater performance. At the same time, Ferrari has ensured a considerable weight reduction thanks to the use of a larger amount of carbon fibre, offering a better power-to-weight ratio and very high figures. Without a doubt, this supposed 488 GTO promises to make life difficult for the competition and to surpass its predecessor, the 458 Speciale, in every aspect.

It is most likely that Ferrari will present this new version at the next Geneva Motor Show, which will take place in March. The Italian firm has wanted to turn the situation around and, without a doubt, has many chances of calling the shots with this new 488 “GTO”.
