The Fisker Nina/Atlantic will see the light in 2014 and will be even more expensive

The Fisker Atlantic, one more year delayed according to certain leaked Fisker documents.

Fisker keeps delaying its Nina project more and more, later transformed into the Fisker Atlantic. The extended-range model, which was supposed to sit below the Fisker Karma, is subject to further delays, although this time we have some more details about this future new Fisker offering.

Following the agreement between Fisker and BMW to supply 100,000 engines a year, the American manufacturer has told the Germans that it wants an engine producing 300 horsepower, so it seems the Atlantic will use one of these engines as a generator for its batteries; according to leaked data, the Atlantic would be in the range of 6.5 seconds to accelerate, a figure that is rather irrelevant for a saloon of these characteristics.

Among other details that have escaped the people at Fisker is the price. As things stand, the Atlantic will be as expensive as an Audi A6 or Jaguar XF, with a price of almost 50,000 euros. Clearly the Atlantic will not be for everyone who wants to enjoy the “benefits” of an eco-friendly car.

Finally, the delay of more than a year before the Atlantic finally reaches the roads seems to be the fault of the arduous negotiations Fisker is holding with “a couple of manufacturers” of batteries, as well as the fact that Obama has yet to deliver the subsidies promised for the vehicle’s production.

In short, the Atlantic remains shrouded in a very thick fog and in the same gossip and controversy the brand endured in the past with the Fisker Karma. At least we know what we suspected, that the Atlantic will not be an extended-range car within everyone’s reach as they had promised.
