Infiniti Q30 Compact Range / versions
The Infiniti Q30 will use Mercedes and Renault engines

The Infiniti Q30 is the first compact model from the Japanese luxury company owned by Nissan.
Only a few days ago we saw the first image of the model, showing something halfway between a compact and a crossover. Today we know it will have engines from both Renault and Mercedes under its bonnet.
It is well known that the brand with the three-pointed star uses engines sourced from Renault. The A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA all use the 1.5 dCi engine in their respective ranges, of French origin, which has brought so much success to the French manufacturer. By contrast, Infiniti uses Mercedes engines, specifically the 2.1d, known within the German group as the 220 CDI.
What’s more, the new Q30, which we will officially and definitively see at the Frankfurt Motor Show in October, will be built on the front-wheel-drive modular MFA platform from Mercedes, the basis for models such as the A-Class and GLA. It is now also claimed that Infiniti will use more Mercedes engines, both diesel and petrol.
The Q30’s diesel engines will be mixed, since, as we explained earlier, it will use the 2.1d from Mercedes, but also the 1.5 dCi from Renault. It is also possible that, instead of the 1.5 dCi, the brand’s managers will opt for the 1.6 dCi, which with 130 CV could become one of the best-selling versions of the model.
The petrol engines will all be of Mercedes origin. It will use 1.6 and 2.0 units, always turbocharged. In the German compact, which already uses these power units, we find outputs ranging from 122 to 210 CV, a power range we will possibly also find in the Japanese compact.
Undoubtedly, this is a more than intelligent move that reduces costs and increases profits, allowing the Japanese model to compete with confidence in one of the most contested segments of the European market.
