Over the past few months we have seen the major Chinese manufacturers looking for plants in Europe where they can assemble their models. The harsh tariffs on electric vehicles coming from China make importing increasingly complex, so brands are seeking efficient solutions to keep producing this type of vehicle without the cost rising too much.

Leapmotor is a brand that has arrived in Europe backed by the Stellantis Group, Europe’s second-largest manufacturer. Several countries are being considered to begin manufacturing the models of the Chinese conglomerate, and they have just announced that there is a serious candidate to host production of the Leapmotor B10.

Production of this model could come to Spain, a country that becomes a strategic point thanks to its geographical location. The plant that could host production of this model is Figueruelas, in Zaragoza. To this end, negotiations have begun to get moving to see whether the benefits outweigh the investment needed to start production soon at this plant, owned by Stellantis.

The Leapmotor B10 belongs to the C-SUV segment and has enjoyed considerable success in China, where 15,000 units were reserved in just one hour. It measures 4.51 metres in length and has a electric drivetrain that makes it very efficient in urban driving.

In principle, it offers a range of up to 600 kilometres, although this figure refers to the CLTC cycle, which is much less demanding than the European homologation cycle WLTP. In China it is offered at a price ranging from 13,900 to 17,700 euros, approximately and depending on the current exchange rate.

The Chinese company wants to invest 200 million euros in the Figueruelas plant, which has the advantage of the battery plant that CATL wants to build in Zaragoza. For now, Leapmotor is looking for Spanish suppliers to achieve the best possible score and thus obtain the state subsidies the Spanish government offers for car manufacturing.
