The Mercedes-AMG GT welcomes a new member, the GT S Roadster

The Mercedes-AMG GT range is expanded with a new member, the GT S Roadster, which arrives as an intermediate option and shares several similarities with the GT C Roadster

The Mercedes-AMG GT family is delighted with the arrival of a new member in the range: the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster, which completes the two models already in the German brand’s catalogue. Until now, customers could opt for the GT Roadster, which served as the entry point to the range, while the top option was the GT C Roadster. The new GT S Roadster will sit as an intermediate option between the two.

Aesthetically, the new Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster shows no major differences from its siblings, also featuring the distinctive Panamericana front grille, while its front bumper is similar to that of the GT C Roadster, which means not only a sporty look but also carefully designed aerodynamics. At the rear, however, the bumper is noticeably different, with a more rounded line that does not translate into such a muscular appearance.

If we open the doors, we will see that everything remains in the same place and layout as in its range siblings, with a design in which we find quality and sportiness on every side. Much of the credit goes to the quality of the chosen finishes, which can be upgraded through different levels depending on each customer’s taste, and the microfibre and leather upholstery can also be replaced with Nappa leather.

At the driver’s seat we will have all the technology and information one would expect in a model of this kind, including the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT controller, which covers five driving modes: Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Race and Individual, the last one being customisable. In all of them, changes are applied to the response of the engine and gearbox, the steering, the suspension, the level of ESP intervention and the flap of the AMG Performance exhaust system.

The biggest differences are found in the mechanical section. The Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster family all share the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, with the turbochargers located inside the V formed by the two cylinder banks. It is worth recalling that in the entry-level GT Roadster this engine produces 476 CV and 630 Nm of torque, while in the GT C Roadster power rises to 557 CV and torque to 680 Nm.

In the new GT S Roadster, the V8 engine delivers 522 CV and 670 Nm of torque, available between 1,900 and 5,000 rpm. The engine remains linked to the 7-speed automatic gearbox, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G, and, like the GT C Roadster, it is fitted with the AMG Performance sports exhaust. With these figures, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, while the combined consumption figures are 11.5 l/100 km and combined CO2 emissions of 262 g/km.

Setting aside the power figures, the GT S Roadster shares more elements with the GT C Roadster than those already mentioned. For example, it features the AMG High-Performance braking system, consisting of 390 mm diameter discs with six-piston calipers at the front and 360 mm discs with single-piston calipers on the rear axle, although this can be upgraded with the optional carbon-ceramic brake package. Other shared elements include the electronically controlled limited-slip differential and the adaptive suspension AMG RIDE CONTROL, also electronically controlled.
