The new Honda Civic Type R once again crowns itself as the fastest front-wheel-drive car around the Nürburgring
As in every generation, Honda has taken its legendary front-wheel-drive sports car to the Green Hell, once again crowning itself as the fastest front-wheel-drive car to lap the circuit
When we think about which are the most effective front-wheel-drive sports cars on the market, the Honda Civic Type R will undoubtedly be one of the first models that comes to mind. The fourth and final generation of the Type R was no exception, and it has once again become the fastest production front-wheel-drive car to lap the iconic 20.8-kilometre Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.
With a time of 7 minutes and 44.881 seconds, the Honda Civic Type R, powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 329 CV and 420 Nm of torque, takes over from its predecessor, which also set the record for the fastest front-wheel-drive lap of the Green Hell at the time.
An improved recipe
Capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 275 km/h, the Type R that set the record time rode on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tyres, which, great news for future owners of the new Type R, will be available to buy.

Hideki Kakinuma, in charge of developing the Type R, has said: “Six years after the previous generation, we have achieved a new dimension in the evolution of the Type R and the passion we put into it. To those who already own our most recent Civic Type R and to those who will, we truly hope that you fall in love with it and enjoy the Civic Type R.”
In terms of more specific figures, the new Civic Type R has a wheelbase 35 mm longer than its previous generation and, in addition, the multi-link rear suspension is now combined with a wider track which, according to the brand, delivers greater stability and more direct steering response.
