At the end of July Suzuki gave us a small preview of what will be the next restyle of the Suzuki Swift Sport, with minor changes to its styling but slightly more substantial ones in the mechanical and dynamic areas. In this way, with the Suzuki Swift Sport as the main attraction, the Japanese brand presented itself at the Frankfurt Motor Show to reveal its main features: more power and more lightness.

Let’s start with the “gentle” side. The new Suzuki Swift Sport benefits from a new, much larger hexagonal front grille, which also affects the rest of the front end, giving it a more aggressive look. To add even sportier touches, the front spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser stand out made of carbon fibre; the latter also integrates the twin exhaust outlets, now larger. The exterior is completed with 17-inch low-profile alloy wheels and the 7 colours available for the bodywork, among them Champion Yellow, the colour with which Suzuki competed in the Junior World Rally Championship.

Inside, colour contrasts combine with higher-quality materials and more refined finishing touches, with a sporty touch provided by the seats and the flat-bottomed steering wheel. It incorporates the infotainment system with 3D navigation on the 7-inch screen, compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. It also includes numerous safety features such as Pedestrian and traffic sign recognition, Lane change alert, Emergency braking system, Light assist, Anti-zigzag control, Adaptive cruise control, 6 airbags and Tyre pressure monitoring, among others.

Mechanically, it will feature the 1,400 cc Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine, which delivers a power output of 140 CV (4 CV more than the outgoing model) and a torque of 230 Nm at 2,600 rpm. This engine will work together with a 6-speed manual gearbox, improved in this model to allow smoother gear changes that require less effort.

In the dynamic area there are also improvements, incorporating the Heartect chassis, a state-of-the-art platform developed by Suzuki that improves weight and rigidity. In fact, the kerb weight has been reduced by 80 kg compared with its predecessor, and through the optimisation of components the total weight is set at just 970 kg. Also, along the same lines, the suspension components have been redesigned and improved, with Monroe also chosen as the brand for the shock absorbers.

As for prices and availability, we will have to wait for confirmation, so stay tuned.
