The Polestar 7 has been confirmed as the replacement for the Polestar 2: this is what the new Swedish model will look like

The popular electric car from the Swedish brand will reach the end of its service life in 2027, and it already has a replacement prepared in the Polestar 7, which will arrive on that date.

The Polestar 2 already has a successor, although its lifespan is not yet very long. Although an end-of-production date has been set for this electric model and its successor has been announced, there is no specific date for the arrival of this one. It is the Polestar 7, according to the company’s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath.

If we look at the number that accompanies the model, we might think it is a large car, close to an executive saloon. But in the case of Polestar, this number is not related to the size of the car. The number 7 refers to the sequential order of the models presented, not to the size of the model or its category.

Thus, the Polestar 7 is expected to maintain the style of the Polestar 2 and its intentions. That said, being a car with a different name, it is expected to be very different and to set a completely different style. The brand’s intention is to separate the style of Polestar from that of Volvo, and for that reason its design may be even more groundbreaking compared with this legacy.

In principle, the Polestar 7 could be based on the SEA platform, from Geely. This indicates an effective separation from the essence of Volvo, since other models from the brand have been built on the CMA platform, from Volvo. This platform, which is used for vehicles with combustion engines, was reworked to accommodate electric motors. The Polestar 4 already used the SEA platform, so it will not be difficult to adapt it for this new model.

The Polestar 2 arrived in 2020 and received an update in 2023. It has become the best-selling car of the brand, and its commercial life is expected to run until 2027. This will mean the Polestar 7 arrives immediately after the end of sales of this very popular model.

The Swedish brand needs at least 1.2 billion euros to launch its new electric models. So far, it has secured loans worth 950 million euros. The rest will come in over the coming years to complete the funding round and avoid liquidity problems in bringing the project to fruition.

Polestar has stated that they do not play in the same territory as other electric car manufacturers, such as Tesla. Its goal is focused on buyers of a certain premium level, so it is not seeking mass production of its models, but rather concentrating on this type of customer.
