The Porsche 911 Turbo laps the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 30 seconds

New details have been revealed about Porsche’s new flagship, the 911 Turbo. First of all, purists will hate the brand once again, for the second time in 2013. The 991 Turbo generation will say goodbye forever to manual gearboxes to make way for the efficient and fast seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic. The same thing happened with the 991 GT3 variant.
However, the Porsche 911 Turbo 2014 will be the most powerful all-wheel-drive 911 to carry this name in history. The 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine will be capable of delivering 520 CV of power. In the Turbo S variant, the figure is expected to rise to 560 CV, putting the Nissan GT-R under pressure.

Active aerodynamics has also been a fundamental part of this supercar in order to bring the lap time below seven minutes and thirty seconds around the old Nürburgring circuit. This time, which has not yet been officially confirmed by Porsche, is nine seconds faster than the 997 Turbo and only five seconds slower than the Carrera GT. It remains to be seen how fast the 911 Turbo S can go.
The rear wing, as in the previous generation, changes its angle to improve both downforce and engine bay temperature. There have also been rumours of a Formula 1-style F-Duct system, although its operation has not yet been officially specified, but it is expected that the car will take in air under the front spoiler. This air will be sent to the rear wing when Sport Plus mode is activated, increasing downforce.
