The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport gets rally livery and it is spectacular

Porsche is still working on the new 718 Cayman GT4 but, in the meantime, the previous GT4 Clubsport has donned its finest rally concept car livery.

Sports cars are usually presented as highly versatile vehicles when it comes to competition, where with a few adjustments they are able to adapt to any track. Porsche, a brand that has tried practically every form of competition, wanted to give the Cayman GT4 the opportunity to debut in the world of rally before the imminent arrival of its successor. With this premise, the German firm has dressed one of the most iconic sports cars of this century in the appropriate uniform to face the most demanding tracks.

The GT4 was born as a more radical version of the previous-generation Cayman, featuring several parts taken from its bigger brother, the GT3. Its naturally aspirated engine from the 911 and its manual gearbox have made this variant of the Cayman one of the most sought-after Porsche at the moment since production ended, but the German firm has decided to give it a second chance.

Porsche has taken the GT4 Clubsport as its basis, a derivative of the original GT4 but with different components designed exclusively for competition. On this occasion, the firm has carried out a series of changes to withstand and overcome the challenges a rally stage can present, but for now Porsche keeps it as a concept vehicle.

It concerns the ADAC Rally Germany, where the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport could take part in a very distant future alongside French driver Romain Dumas, who has been involved in the development of this project. Dumas has vast experience not only on asphalt, but also working side by side with the VAG Group, since he was also the one who claimed victory at Pikes Peak with the Volkswagen I.D R, the first 100% electric race car from the brand.

Although it is a concept car, we can see numerous mechanical components applied in contemporary vehicles. Although one of the charms of the Cayman GT4 is its manual gearbox, Porsche has decided to fit a PDK gearbox to meet the goal of racing in the FIA R-GT category. However, the powertrain remains intact, and at the heart of the German sports car we find the 3.8-litre six-cylinder capable of producing 385 CV of power and 420 Nm of torque.

Porsche has wanted to keep working on the Cayman GT4, a model that will soon be replaced by the 718 GT4 but, in the meantime, the brand shows its clear intention of turning it into a rally car. For now we do not know whether this project will end up on the production line of Porsche, something the brand could reveal very soon.
