The SAIC Z7 is unveiled in China and takes on Porsche
The new sports car that SAIC is about to present, developed together with Huawei, has a look designed to compete with Porsche, but at a lower price.

Premium electric saloons are growing spectacularly in the Chinese market, so we are seeing new models arrive that compete with one another to win a share of this coveted market. SAIC, in collaboration with Huawei, has just launched the SAIC Z7, a high-end electric saloon that offers a luxurious and very dynamic image, yet at a very modest price when we look at its main rivals.
The SAIC Z7 is based on the TULING platform, which underpins an 800-volt architecture and allows this model to feature a very attractive technological equipment list. It will go on sale on 31 March, but we are already learning details about the car, and it seems to be attracting considerable attention from all potential buyers.

The aim of this model is to position itself against similar models of German origin, which is why its look is so closely tied to this type of car. In this case, the Z7 will be launched at a price of between 250,000 and 300,000 yuan, which equates to between 36,000 and 50,000 euros. This price is noticeably lower than that of the Porsche Taycan, which is the reference in this type of vehicle.

German-inspired design
The model’s design is based on a typically German design. The roofline takes the form of a fastback, the rear wheel arches are large, and a light bar runs across the entire rear from end to end. At the front, the grille has been closed off to highlight its electric nature, and the high-tech headlights give a very modern and effective look. A LiDAR radar has been fitted to the roof, which points to advanced autonomous driving technology.
Huawei’s involvement is reflected in the driver assistance system Quiankun ADS 4.0. It is designed to deliver an advanced and safe driving experience. We know it will rely on LiDAR, although we do not yet know how the software updates will be managed or the details of the autonomous driving system as a whole.
Engines and performance
This model is expected to feature a motor offering all-wheel drive with an output of 385 kW, equivalent to 523 CV, and a torque of 700 Nm. The battery range is expected to reach 700 kilometres, though under the CLTC cycle. The rear-wheel-drive version will be available later, although its performance details have not yet been revealed.
