Toyota unveils its second fuel cell truck that produces zero emissions, thus supporting European regulations and caring for the environment.

Toyota is committed to a freight transport that cares for the environment through the presentation of its second fuel cell truck that produces zero emissions. We are talking about the Class 8, the improved version of the previous truck from Toyota that uses this technology, this time with greater range and superior maneuverability.

The main objective is to substantially reduce CO2 emissions in freight transport through the use of trucks that produce zero emissions.

This new truck is internally called Beta. It improves on the capabilities of the previous model, especially the range, which is estimated to be around 500 km per tank, an outstanding figure considering that we are talking about a transport vehicle. It will be more versatile and easier to maneuver thanks to a unique combination of a sleeper cab and a fuel tank that allows increased cab space while increasing the wheelbase.

Engineers and technicians worked intensively to reconfigure the wiring, electronic systems and other components of two standard Mirai fuel cell electric vehicles to create one of the first heavy-duty trucks that produces zero emissions.

Its work continues to draw great admiration. It has a load capacity of up to 36 tonnes and a range per tank of 230 km, as well as 670 CV were some of the most relevant data of its first truck called Alpha. The new model, Beta, has the same figures but with an improved range, among other enhancements.

There are more than 16,000 polluting trucks operating at the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, a figure that will only increase in the coming years, especially considering the wide growth of online businesses that hire transport companies to carry out millions of daily orders.

“Our goal with the first truck was to see if it could be done, and we did it””, said the senior director of the Electrified Vehicles and Technologies Office for North America at Toyota, Craig Scott, who noted: “This time we are seeking commercial viability. We want to help change things… a substantial change in terms of air quality, not only in Los Angeles, but also throughout the United States and in the rest of the planet“.

This announcement is in line with the initiatives of the Environmental Challenge of Toyota 2050 for the Los Angeles area, with the goal of eliminating CO2 emissions from the company’s logistics center at the port of Long Beach.

Undoubtedly a very well-judged initiative, taking a step further toward a world where cars are no longer one of the 3 main causes of pollution on the planet, behind the pollution produced by the food industry through animal farming.
