The Stellantis plant in Zaragoza has reached its 15 millionth unit produced. Would you like to know which model it is?

For 40 years, the Stellantis plant in Zaragoza has been producing several models from the brands that now make up the group. Many cars have rolled off the plant’s production line, and this has allowed the plant to reach 15 million vehicles produced. The car that reached that figure left the assembly line just a few days ago.

The car with that honour is a Opel Corsa-e, an electric model produced exclusively at the Aragonese plant. The plant also builds the combustion-engine version of the Citroën C3 Aircross and the Opel Crossland, two SUVs that have been quite successful in the brand’s line-up.

The Opel Corsa, the first model to leave the Zaragoza plant

In fact, the first model to come off the production line at the Stellantis plant in Zaragoza was the Opel Corsa. Indeed, six generations of this model have been built in Zaragoza, making it the model with the longest relationship with the plant.

It was also the electrified Opel Corsa that brought electrification to the Zaragoza plant, so it has been important for this increasingly crucial aspect of the industry today. The cycle continues, but the Opel Corsa still seems to set the pace for this veteran multi-brand plant of the car group.

Other milestones achieved at this factory include the 500,000 units built of the Citroën C3 Aircross and the Opel Crossland, which has now surpassed 560,000 units and arrived in 2017. In 2021, assembly of the electric drivetrain for the Opel Corsa-e and the Citroën ë-C4 began; the latter is built at Stellantis’ plant in Madrid.

Not only is it manufacturing electric models, aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, but it also follows a rigorous decarbonisation strategy. It has an on-site photovoltaic self-consumption power plant that supplies one third of the energy the plant needs to operate. More photovoltaic panels and wind generators will soon be installed, which will cover 80% of the plant’s energy needs.
