The VW ID. Golf electric will have a price similar to that of its predecessors with combustion engines
The future electric Golf must be a sales success, as it is one of the most iconic models of the German manufacturer. There is no room for error, which is why Volkswagen is taking care of every detail in its development.
There are still a few years until the next generation of Golf with a fully electric powertrain reaches the market, but that has not stopped speculation from emerging about its specifications and also about its price.
According to a recent report published in German media, this new model, which will probably be named ID. Golf, will draw its inspiration from the proportions and design of the Golf IV.

The Golf IV was in production between 1997 and 2006 and measured 4.15 metres in length, making it significantly shorter than the current Golf VIII or the ID.3, both of which reach 4.28 metres. In any case, the ID. Golf is also expected to sit at around 4.15 metres, though it should not be forgotten that the longer wheelbase typical of electric vehicles should allow it to offer similar interior space, or even more than the Golf VIII, despite its shorter length.
On the other hand, for more than a year now there have been rumours that the future electric Golf could be slightly shorter than the current ID.3, so if this is finally confirmed it would surprise no one.
More details to keep in mind about the future ID. Golf
Another important aspect we already know is that the electric successor to the Golf will be built on the new SSP platform, and everything points to its market launch taking place around 2029. We also know that there will initially be at least two versions, although there could be more. The entry-level version will have a fairly affordable price that could sit slightly above 30,000 euros, offering a WLTP range of around 500 km. In addition, the higher version or versions could increase the range to 600 km, with a higher maximum supported charging power, thereby reducing charging times from 10 to 80 percent to just 15 minutes.

Two or three years after the market launch of the ID. Golf, Volkswagen will begin selling a high-performance R version, which will be the first fully electric model to bear the iconic R logo of the German manufacturer. According to German media, until now Volkswagen has avoided using combustion engine designations for its electric vehicles, opting for example for GTX instead of GTI for its sportier models. However, this will change with the introduction of a GTI variant based on the ID.2, which we will see in just a couple of years or three.
Keeping the tradition but with electric technology
Volkswagen will thus follow the trend started by another German manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, which increasingly makes less distinction in the names used for its combustion-engine and fully electric models.

Finally, it should be noted that one of the weak points of Volkswagen until now in its electric models will apparently not be a problem in the ID. Golf. The German company promises that the software of the ID. Golf will be completely reliable and claims to have achieved great advances in its development, even surpassing the competition in areas such as route planning or the smoothness of the user interface. Time will tell whether this is really the case or not.
