Toyota Hilux 2016, finally official

Hilux 1

After several weeks of spy photos and various leaks, Toyota has decided to make official the new generation of its best-known pick-up, the Hilux.

Described by the brand as a completely new model, the Hilux presents a more modern look and, a priori, much better performance.

The exterior design of the new Hilux was practically known to everyone due to the constant rumors and leaks that have emerged over the weeks, although that does not make it any less worth mentioning. The front end has gained a lot thanks to a larger grille and headlight units that take inspiration from the latest passenger cars from the Japanese brand.

The side and rear have no major changes, as they are limited by the very concept of a pick-up. However, to modernize the look, new mirrors and wheels have been added, as well as new rear lights.

In the interior, the change is more than palpable. The dashboard is completely new, drawing inspiration from the one offered by Toyota on the Avensis or Auris. The light blue lighting adds a premium touch, accompanied by upholstered surfaces and a greater proportion of soft plastics. The seats are also new, improving comfort and interior space.

Mechanically, the Hilux will have 4 engines, which will not all be available in most markets. For example, in our country, the petrol variants will not be offered. In diesel, the Hilux will mount a 2.4 D4-D with 160 CV and 400 Nm and a 2.8 D4-D with 177 CV and 450 Nm. For petrol lovers, two engines will be offered: a naturally aspirated 2.7 four-cylinder with 165 CV, and a monstrous naturally aspirated 4.0 V6 with 280 CV. Depending on the engine, either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox will be fitted.
