Tremble Tesla! The Polestar 1 makes its debut with a 600 CV hybrid engine

The Polestar 1 has finally been presented as the first car from the company that bears its name. The brand of the Volvo group has announced that it will specialise in the production of high-performance electrified vehicles, and here comes its first hybrid model.

During the presentation of the Polestar 1, the Swedish company confirmed the plans it has to develop its first three models, a process it will carry out in a production plant located in China. Polestar will draw on the synergies and economies of scale of the Volvo Car Group to speed up the design, development and production processes for its cars.

The Polestar 1 will reach the market in mid-2019 with a hybrid powertrain of high performance, made up of an electric motor and an internal combustion engine which together deliver 600 CV of power and 1,000 Nm of torque. Thanks to this propulsion system, the Polestar 1 will be able to cover 150 kilometres in 100% electric mode, the longest range among hybrid models on the market.

We are talking about a four-seat Gran Tourer Coupé based on the Modula SPA platform of Volvo, although roughly 50% of it has been created by the engineers of Polestar independently.

The Polestar 1 features a truly advanced and unique chassis. The car offers a state-of-the-art damping system, continuously controlled electronically. It also has a carbon fibre monocoque that reduces the weight of the vehicle, increases its torsional rigidity and lowers its centre of gravity (a consequence of removing weight from the highest areas of the car). The electric rear twin-axle also introduces a torque vectoring system that optimises grip under traction in corners.

As with the Link & Co models, the Polestar models can only be purchased online.
