Volkswagen presents its latest proposal in the commercial vehicle segment. Named T6, the new VW van arrives with an updated and more attractive design, a high-quality interior and more powerful and efficient engines.

The commercial vehicles division of Volkswagen unveiled last night the new generation of its most popular van, named in this new generation T6.

Replacing the current T5, the T6 arrives as a more advanced and attractive van than ever, ready to attract potential customers who until now had not considered buying this type of vehicle.

The exterior of the T6 remains fully recognisable as a vehicle from Volkswagen, although the German giant has managed to implement the changes needed to update its image for new times. The front is now sharper; the lines, still straight, have an inclination never before seen on a VW commercial, which together with newly designed headlights that can optionally feature Full LED technology, give the T6 a truly attractive look.

At the rear, the light clusters have been redesigned and, depending on the version, will feature a specific internal structure and LED technology. Overall, the folds and edges of the bodywork are now more visible and more sharply defined.

Inside, the changes are even more evident. VW has made a great leap in quality in the T6’s cabin, something that is immediately apparent. The dashboard has been renewed with higher-quality materials, also improving ergonomics with a redistribution of some controls. It adopts systems and features from the brand’s passenger cars, also incorporating decorative trim that enhances the sense of quality. The steering wheel and climate control, for example, come directly from the Golf. The multimedia system stands out; in its most complete version it has a 6.3-inch screen with gesture recognition.

Mechanically, the T6 is strengthened by the addition of systems such as Start&Stop, standard across the range, or the DCC active chassis system, which allows selection of three different driving modes: Comfort, Normal or Sport. The TDI engines are now more economical and more powerful, all based on the 2.0 TDI, with four power levels: 84, 102, 150 and 204 CV. In addition, a 2.0-litre petrol alternative is added, offered in two power levels: 150 and 204 CV.

Safety equipment is expanded with the arrival of adaptive cruise control (ACC) or City Emergency Braking, which below 30 km/h can avoid a rear-end collision by braking the vehicle autonomously. The lighting package can optionally include a high-beam assist, which automatically adjusts the light beam to avoid dazzling other drivers.

To mark the launch of this new generation, Volkswagen has prepared a special edition named “Generation Six“, which aims to look back at the origins of this popular model, adopting a decoration similar to that of the period. Based on the Multivan Comfortline, it adds equipment such as LED headlights, tinted windows and chrome trim.
