Volkswagen will begin taking action on the affected cars from January 2016

Volkswagen AG has announced the first steps to take following the severe crisis the company finds itself in as a result of the pollutant emissions scandal.
It seems that the German company will begin to correct the faults in the millions of cars affected by the “lying” software problem from 2016 onwards.
What can certainly be considered the worst crisis in the history of the German manufacturer, Volkswagen appears to be trying to put right its mistake as soon as possible in an attempt to start recovering both the credibility and the image lost over the last two weeks.
The automotive giant has announced that, as part of its action plan for the pollutant emissions crisis, the first measures for private vehicles that are either already built or on the roads across half the world will begin to take effect at the beginning of 2016, that is, in about three months.

Let us recall, although it is hard to forget, the cause of this whole scandal. It seems that around 11 million vehicles worldwide are affected by a “hidden” programme within their operating software which, although they easily pass the type-approval tests, makes them unfit for the roads, as they pollute between 10 and 40 times more than is permitted.
In Europe, the number of affected units is known to be approximately 8 million, among Audi, Skoda, Seat and Volkswagen itself.
All fitted with engines from the EA189 EU5 family, that is, 1.2 TDI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI. It is not yet known what the roadmap will be for solving the problem, although the most likely outcome is that most vehicles will be fixed with a simple reprogramming of the engine control unit. However, a smaller number of vehicles will require “physical” work, with higher cost and complexity.
