Volvo has unveiled the most attractive and eye-catching trim level of the newly launched second generation of the XC90. We are talking about the XC90 R-Design.

The XC90 R-Design will be publicly presented at the Paris Motor Show, alongside the “standard” version of the Swedish flagship.

Practically all luxury SUVs offer a sportier alternative, less focused on comfort and more on driving performance. The latest to join the trend is Volvo with the R-Design, which is the equivalent of the AMG Pack at Mercedes, the M Pack at BMW or the S-Line at Audi.

Outside, the XC90 stands out for a more aggressive front end, thanks to a bumper with more pronounced and voluminous lines. New air intakes, together with fog lights positioned at the extremes, help create a (greater) sense of width and robustness. The grille also features new materials, now with patterns finished in brushed aluminium.

The alloy wheels offered in the R-Design trim range in size from 20 to 22″, which enhances the vehicle’s image but will make maintenance more expensive when sourcing spare parts. At the rear we also find a redesigned bumper in which two square exhaust outlets emphasise the performance and sporty focus of the R-Design trim.

As for the interior, the highlight is the incorporation of sports seats upholstered in leather and “Nubuck”, a textile finish exclusive to Volvo. Both the steering wheel and the gear lever are wrapped in perforated leather, while the cabin trim, as well as the pedals and door sills, feature a specific design.

The XC90 R-Design can be chosen with any of the diesel and petrol options that Volvo has prepared for the XC90 range, including the T8 plug-in hybrid version with more than 400 CV.
