Audi Q6 e-tron Offroad: an electric concept made for enjoying the snow... or the desert sand

This concept model has been designed to give the Audi Q6 Sportback more off-road capabilities and, although we don’t know much more, we are eager to see it.

Audi never ceases to surprise with the concept models it is preparing and it seems that once again, it is ready to do so once more. The way the concept was presented has been rather curious, as it was revealed through its Facebook account. It is the Audi Q6 e-tron Offroad, a model based on the company’s electric SUV, which is shown through several images but without offering much information about it.

What we can see in the images that have been revealed is that it has additional light units at the front. But its appearance looks completely different from the production model. There is also a LED light bar on the roof, which allows better visibility ahead of the vehicle.

Other details found on the bodywork are new bumpers and side skirts. The approach angles have been increased, so its off-road capability has been improved without losing the essence of the German SUV. The wheel arches are also considerably larger. The wheels are fitted with Venom Power Terra Hunter X/T off-road tyres, which help it tackle any terrain, however difficult it may be.

It has been equipped with “portal axles“, a technological solution that makes it much more efficient on the most demanding terrain. These axles stand out because they have a set of gears placed very close to each of the wheels. This makes them function like reduction gearboxes and helps raise the ride height above the ground.

It is a solution not usually used on production models, as it considerably limits their functionality under normal conditions. However, military vehicles or off-roaders, which have more demanding off-road requirements, benefit from it and it allows them to improve their movement off the road.

There is no further information beyond what can be seen in the images, but we assume that as far as the powertrain is concerned, there will not be too many surprises. This means we will find the two electric motors that generate a power output of 360 kW, equivalent to 517 CV. That is, the same ones used by the Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron, on which it is based.

The range of this model is estimated at 602 kilometres, which may drop somewhat when considering the greater weight and different, harsher driving expectations.
