Baojun, GM's partner in China, presents the Xiang Jing, a plug-in hybrid and electric model within everyone's reach
The Chinese manufacturer has presented a saloon that will be offered as a battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle, although we do not know whether it will reach Western markets.

Chinese manufacturers continue to bet on electric cars, and the presentation of models of this type is a constant in their market, from where they launch into other markets. GM operates in the country under the Baojun brand, so this is the one that launches the new proposals from the international manufacturer. The latest model launched by Baojun is the Xiang Jing, a saloon that will be offered both in battery electric and plug-in hybrid versions.
There are not many details about this model, although data has already been revealed that make it a fairly interesting vehicle. It has a length of 5,005 millimetres, which is no small figure. This length allows it to offer a wheelbase of 2,900 millimetres, so the interior also provides a comfortable and spacious environment.

With this size, we might think it could be a car designed to form part of a higher range. But according to the company, this saloon is meant to be an affordable vehicle and part of a fleet aimed at people without high incomes. In other words, an affordable car for young families, but with higher-end versions.
Electric variant
The electric version will feature a lithium iron phosphate battery, although its capacity has not been specified. The electric motor will deliver a power output of 186 kW, equivalent to 249 CV. The top speed this motor would allow is 170 km/h, if it is not electronically limited.
Moving on to the plug-in hybrid version, this will work alongside a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This will contribute 141 CV to the overall output, and we assume the combustion engine will not be as powerful. The maximum distance it can cover in electric mode is expected to be 101 kilometres. However, this is measured according to the CLTC cycle, which is less demanding than the WLTP cycle applied in Europe.
