BYD doubles the power of the Yangwang U9 with a new high-performance version of this supercar

With this high-performance version, BYD, through its luxury brand Yangwang, reaffirms its ambition to secure a privileged position in the competitive electric supercar market.

The Yangwang U9 debuted in April 2024, allowing BYD to enter the fully electric supercar market for the first time. Equipped with four electric motors, one per wheel, this model delivers a total output of 960 kW, which makes it one of the most powerful vehicles in its segment.

With an approximate price of around 200,000 euros at the Chinese exchange rate, the U9 already made a difference by being capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds, with a top speed limited to 309 km/h.

These spectacular technical specifications do not seem sufficient, however, for BYD, which has already set its engineers to work with the aim of launching a much more radical high-performance version shortly. Under the name “Track“, this new version is already undergoing homologation in China by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, better known by its acronym MIIT.

The Yangwang U9 steps up a level

Designed specifically for circuits, this new “Track” version incorporates visual improvements such as a carbon fibre roof and a redesigned front splitter, but the real advance lies in its powertrain. BYD has integrated new state-of-the-art electric motors, capable of exceeding 30,000 revolutions per minute, compared with the usual range of 10,000 to 20,000 rpm.

Each of these new motors also increases its individual output up to 555 kW, raising the combined power of all four to 2,220 kW, more than double that of the standard model. This improvement should allow the U9 Track to reach 100 km/h in less than two seconds, in addition to raising its top speed and thereby reducing lap times on circuit.

At the Nürburgring, the standard U9 recorded a time of 7:17.900 minutes, finishing behind rivals such as the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the Rimac Nevera and the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. With the Track version, BYD aims to reverse these results by setting new records, and everything points to it succeeding. We will surely have news on this shortly, and of course, if that happens, we will tell you about it here at HighMotor.

For the time being, BYD has not yet revealed the launch date of the Yangwang U9 Track, but given that it is already undergoing homologation with the MIIT, it should not be long before the first units reach the streets of China and, especially, the circuits. Its price is also not yet known and will presumably be revealed when its market launch is officially announced.
