BYD launches the new Tang L and Han L in China

The Chinese manufacturer throws down a new gauntlet to the competition with these two Premium models featuring advanced technology, positioned at the very top of its range.

BYD continues to shake up the market with the launch of increasingly technologically advanced vehicles. This time it is the turn of its two flagship models in the SUV and saloon segments, the Tang L and the Han L. Both models are already available on the Chinese market, in both plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions.

It is worth noting that these are the first vehicles from the Chinese manufacturer to use its new 1,000-volt architecture platform, with the advantages this brings not only in terms of charging times, and all of this at a selling price lower than initially announced.

The Tang L Premium SUV is sold in China from 229,800 yuan, which amounts to just over 28,000 euros. Meanwhile, the Han L Premium saloon has a base price in the same market of 219,800 yuan -around 26,800 euros-. These prices, as we said, are lower than those announced by BYD when reservations opened last March -around 50,000 yuan less-.

The very latest in electric propulsion technology

Both models debut the Super e-Platform from BYD, with a rear electric motor of 580 kW and third-generation silicon carbide power modules of 1,500 V. The all-wheel-drive versions also add another motor on the front axle of 230 kW, raising the combined output to 810 kW. According to BYD, the electric motor is capable of exceeding 30,500 revolutions per minute, delivering performance superior to that of a V12 combustion engine.

In terms of on-road performance, the Han L is capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in just 2.7 seconds, with its top speed limited to 305 km/h. The Tang L requires 3.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h, with a top speed of 257 km/h. These figures correspond to the all-wheel-drive versions with 810 kW combined output and a peak torque of 860 Nm.

It should also be pointed out that both vehicles feature ultra-rapid charging via a dual connector. The Tang L supports up to 8.4 C, capable of adding 370 km of range in just five minutes. The Han L, with 10 C, can add 400 km of range in the same time. Connected to a pair of standard 180 kW fast-charging points, the Tang L supports a maximum output of 351 kW.

The Han L incorporates a second-generation Blade battery pack from BYD itself, with a capacity of 83.2 kWh, thanks to which it is able to travel up to 701 km CLTC on a single charge in the rear-wheel-drive versions and 601 km in the all-wheel-drive versions. The Tang L, meanwhile, has a 100 kWh battery pack, with ranges of between 560 and 670 km, depending on the configuration.

Finally, we cannot conclude without referring to the dimensions of these two vehicles. The Han L measures 5.05 metres long, 1.96 metres wide and 1.51 metres high, with a wheelbase of 2.97 metres. The Tang L, meanwhile, is 5.04 metres long, 2 metres wide and 1.76 metres high. This Premium SUV offers seating for seven passengers and a boot of up to 1,960 litres.
