Camper range by Tinkervan: leisure specialists

The Camper range of the brand comes from the collaboration between Peugeot and Tinkervan, with the Peugeot Traveller and Peugeot Rifter as the stars.

Camper conversions are becoming fashionable, and there are more and more competitors in this segment. Now it is Peugeot’s turn, which also turns to the specialists at Tinkervan to convert the Peugeot Traveller, and from 2019 will offer an unprecedented proposal in price and size with the Camper version of the Peugeot Rifter.

The success of this type of vehicle is due to its extraordinary versatility and adaptability. Without giving up a car that is perfectly usable for daily driving, the different conversion possibilities allow users to enjoy all the equipment needed to adapt the vehicle to their leisure moments. They even become alternatives to motorhomes for those who enjoy activities such as skiing, mountain biking, hiking, mountaineering… and want to stay as close as possible to nature.

For this reason, sales in the “camper” sector have grown by 120% over the last 5 years. Among other rivals, the Peugeot Traveller Camper faces its “cousin” the Citroën SpaceTourer Camper, the Ford Tourneo Custom (also converted by Tinkervan), the Volkswagen Grand California and the Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo, among others.

A customer who wants a Traveller Camper has it easy: they choose the body version of the Traveller they want (4.60, 4.95 or 5.30 metres long), with one of the BlueHDI engines (120, 150 or 180 CV, which are also offered with the option of the smooth eight-speed EAT8 automatic gearbox) and the trim level that best suits their needs (Active, Allure, Business and Business VIP). Because when they are not using the possibilities offered by the camper conversion, that is how they will enjoy their car.

From here on, and always at the time of purchase and without leaving the dealership, the Tinkervan catalogue comes into play. They take care of the conversion, homologation and legalisation process, which from the moment of purchase can take between one and two months, depending on the level of preparation.

The first level is called Happy, and what it does is create the so-called “living room space”, by making the seats swivel and installing a table. An auxiliary 100 Ah battery, a 12-volt socket, USB and integrated LED lights are added, and we have a “basic” camper, adding 2,800 euros to the price of the chosen Traveller.

Sunset is the second level, which adds the installation of the Webasto heating system under the floor of the vehicle, with a digital timer, and a power inverter, for 1,750 euros more. On top of this equipment comes the conversion that most expands the possibilities of using the Peugeot Traveller as a leisure vehicle: the pneumatically opening pop-up roof, which creates a second space with a 2×1.30 metre bed and allows an interior height of up to 2.4 metres. The best part, besides the quality of workmanship? With the roof closed, the maximum height of the vehicle remains below 1.98 metres. The price of this conversion is 7,450 euros. Optionally, a seat-over bed for children or adults can be fitted.

The Dreams version is the most complete. For 4,800 euros, this preparation adds furniture, with rear cupboards, a pull-out kitchen, fridge, shower and bicycle rack.

In this way, the converted Peugeot Traveller allows you to enjoy the modularity and technology of the original vehicle in terms of interior space and number of seats or comfort and safety systems, adding up to three distinct living spaces, with one of the highest pop-up roofs on the market, which also allows the original air conditioning installed in this area to remain in use.

Peugeot Rifter Camper

Without a doubt, the Camper version of the Peugeot Rifter opens a new market segment that many rivals will join. Peugeot is the first brand to bet on a camper car in this category, offering a level of camperisation almost similar to that of its bigger siblings.

For the Rifter Camper, Tinkervan has also prepared a kit for the long-wheelbase Rifter, which later this year will offer the possibility of creating spaces such as a living area with a removable table and a bed area, with autonomous heating and electricity. By 2019, Tinkervan is already preparing even the option of a pop-up roof.
