Dacia celebrates its eight millionth vehicle produced at its Mioveni plant

The Dacia plant in Mioveni, Romania, has reached the considerable milestone of eight million units manufactured since its opening in 1968.

Bigster Journey 001

Although we have known the Dacia brand for a relatively short time, it has been selling vehicles in Romania and parts of Europe for several decades. The Mioveni plant opened in 1968, and since then the brand’s different models have rolled off this plant’s assembly line and reached more and more European countries. And these days Dacia is celebrating a very important milestone: the production of its 8 millionth unit.

The first car to leave this plant in 1968 was a Dacia 1100, which was built under a licence granted by Renault and was a variant of the Renault 8. From that point on, units based on the Renault 12 were also produced, including the Dacia 1300 and 1310 models. Time has passed, and the 8 millionth unit turned out to be a Dacia Bigster journey hybrid 155 in Indigo Blue.

Dacia

The brand continued to produce models based on Renault designs, but in 1995 it began designing new models, developed entirely in Romania, under the name Dacia Nova. This new era produced models such as the SupeRNova, in autumn 2000, and the Solenza (in spring 2003).

In 1999, Renault bought the Romanian plant and gave it new impetus. The Dacia Logan was launched in 2004 and became the first model to achieve success in international markets. Since the plant opened, six generations of models have rolled off its line, and the brand has become a recognised manufacturer for the international market.

The model with the most units produced at Dacia’s industrial complex has been the Dacia Duster, launched in 2010, which has already reached just over 2.6 million units. The most recent model to begin production in Mioveni is the Dacia Bigster, which is precisely the model that has been given the honour of being the eight millionth vehicle.

This model has already received 13,000 orders, although it only recently entered production. As for the brand’s figures, it is present in 44 countries, and the Western European market accounts for 70% of the sales registered by the Romanian brand.
