Geely Auto arrives in Spain with two models in its lineup: one electric and one hybrid

Geely, a brand of Chinese giant Geely Auto Group, will begin selling in Spain with two models: the E5 electric and the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid

Geely Starray Emi E5

Many of you will surely know Geely Auto Group, the Chinese automotive giant founded in 1986 that today sells its vehicles in Europe and also in Spain under brands such as Lynk & Co or Zeekr, although its reach extends to many more brands, since this group is the majority shareholder of other brands such as Volvo or Lotus, in addition to holding a significant stake in others such as Proton or smart, the latter together with Mercedes.

2025 was the peak year for Geely Auto Group, at least in its entire history, and it looks set to keep climbing rapidly, closing the year having surpassed 20 million vehicles in cumulative sales, selling 3,024,567 cars in a single year, a year-on-year increase of 39% and a new record to beat. Outside China they managed to sell 420,000 units, of which more than 120,000 were new energy vehicles (NEVs).

Geely Auto Group’s target for 2026 is set under the “One Geely” strategy, which means reaching 3.45 million vehicles, with 2.22 million NEVs (64.35% of total sales) and launching around 10 new models. To achieve this, Geely Auto Group has set out to integrate the intelligent electrification developed in China with the global automotive value chain, offering mobility solutions that exceed user expectations worldwide.

To achieve these goals, the group needs more of its brands to reach a larger number of potential customers, more quickly and easily. That is why Geely Auto Group has announced that its brand Geely will also land in Spain, and it will do so from the outset with two models in the SUV segment with a multi-powertrain approach, meaning you won’t necessarily have to buy a 100% electric car if you want a Geely.

Geely E5 (2)

The first of these models is the Geely E5, a fully electric SUV powered by a motor that produces 160 kW (218 CV) and equipped with the in-house developed Short Blade Battery, available in 60.22 kWh and 68.79 kWh capacities, with which this model can achieve a maximum range of up to 475 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. The battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes.

Geely Starray Emi (3)

The second model is the Geely Starray EM-i, a plug-in hybrid SUV equipped with Geely Auto’s EM-i hybrid technology. This model features a high-efficiency combustion engine developed by Horse Powertrain, the joint venture created between Geely Auto Group and Renault based in Spain, and a 160 kW electric motor to deliver a combined output of 262 CV. It also has a battery with 18.4 kWh and 29.8 kWh capacities, allowing a combined range of up to 943 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.

We do not yet have official equipment and pricing for these models, but we won’t have to wait long, as Geely has confirmed that the commercial launch will take place in the first half of 2026. Meanwhile, Geely is developing a nationwide dealership network, with a rollout that will be carried out progressively.
