Geely launches sales of its Galaxy E8 saloon in China

While Zeekr aims to be Geely’s Premium brand, Galaxy is focused on those who pay closer attention to price when buying a new vehicle, without neglecting quality either

We start the year with news of yet another brand from a Chinese manufacturer that you probably don’t know yet. Remember this name, “Galaxy”, because it will surely be talked about a lot from now on. Galaxy is the new brand of the Chinese automotive giant Geely, which also owns Zeekr, Volvo and Polestar. This new brand debuted in February last year with two hybrid models, the L7 SUV and the L8 saloon. And now its lineup features its first fully electric model, the E8 saloon.

According to internal sources at the company, Geely’s plans involve launching seven new models under the Galaxy brand by 2025. Four of them will be plug-in hybrids and the other three fully electric. The E8 saloon is the first of the latter. All Galaxy models with plug-in hybrid powertrains will belong to the L Series, while the pure electric ones will fall within the E Series. Their differentiation will therefore be very simple, based solely on the model name.

The Galaxy E8 is already on sale in the Chinese market from 175,800 yuan -about €22,600 at current exchange rates-. The top-of-the-range version, on the other hand, is priced at 228,800 yuan -almost €30,000 at current exchange rates-. Geely will initially offer three more versions in between, making five in total, with ranges from 550 to 665 km.

Geely is betting heavily on the first electric car from its new brand

At 5,010 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,465 mm high, the Galaxy E8 has considerable dimensions, making it the perfect choice for families with several children who need generous interior space. This is helped by its generous wheelbase of 2,925 mm. Luggage space is 420 litres in the rear boot, plus another 53 litres in the front boot of the vehicle.

One of the most notable aspects of its specifications is that it features an 800V architecture which, according to the manufacturer itself, allows it to add 180 km of range at a fast-charging point in just five minutes. Another important figure is its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration, which in the top-of-the-range version with dual electric motors and 475 kW of combined power drops to just 3.49 seconds.

Finally, it should be noted that the more affordable rear-wheel-drive versions have a conventional 400V architecture, with a single 200 kW motor that allows them to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just under six seconds. It is also worth mentioning that the Galaxy E8 is available with three battery packs to choose from: 62, 75.6 and 76 kWh.
