Genesis GV90, the new luxury electric SUV that aims to compete at the very top

Genesis unveils its new flagship, taking the form of an electric SUV with luxury features for demanding buyers who are looking for luxury.

The luxury world has some very distinctive brands that are highly recognisable. But there are others that are closing in on those established names and want to offer all the features those vehicles from brands such as Audi, Rolls Royce and others that dominate that market have. The Genesis GV90 is the Korean brand’s proposal to enter that segment, in the form of an electric SUV with luxury performance and equipment.

It is set to become the flagship of Genesis and to do so it measures 525 centimetres in length, which allows it a wheelbase of 326 centimetres. This provides a spacious and comfortable interior for the occupants of the SUV. Its motor delivers a power output of 657 CV and a maximum torque of 800 Nm.

This motor is powered by a battery with a capacity of 123.5 kWh. This capacity allows it to cover up to 500 kilometres on a single charge, although this test was carried out internally, not under EPA certification, which is the one used in the United States.

Luxury on board the Genesis GV90

One of the most distinctive elements of this car is found in the top-of-the-range version. In this case it is fitted with a reverse-opening door, which Genesis calls the Neolun Arch Gate. These doors allow easier access to the cabin, as they have no B-pillar. This solution is not very commonly used, as it is complicated to design and to make efficient. However, this model has opted for this solution, although only in the most luxurious version.

For it to work, Genesis has stated that it has integrated high-strength steel beams into the door and bodywork structure, together with a roll-cage-type structure with a thicker frame, steel tubes and other strong materials. The rear door uses a double-movement hinge that makes it easier to open without having to open the front door first.

The rest of the versions use standard doors, so this option is expected to be the most popular choice among buyers of the model. As for the interior, the Genesis GV90 lives up to expectations. Inside we find an OLED screen that grows from 23.6 to 24.6 inches when the car is parked.

The instrument display measures 25 inches and the controls are made of glass. The air vents are motorised, there is a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 25 speakers, and the seats feature fifteen air outlets and a massage function. The front seats can rotate 180 degrees thanks to a motor, so they can face the rear seats.

The executive version

In addition, the Genesis GV90 offers an executive suite, with four seats. Here the luxury is multiplied, as it features a wooden floor, a fridge, tables, a partition between the cabin zones and other features designed to increase the comfort of the occupants.

As for the price of this new flagship model of Genesis, we do not yet know it. We will have to wait a little to find out how much the buyer will have to pay. Given the variety of variants, the price will vary considerably from the entry version to the top of the range. Nevertheless, it is not expected to start below 100,000 euros.
