Goodbye to the Spyker C12 Zagato

Serious financial problems, a Formula 1 team recently sold due to financial trouble, low production capacity and a high number of orders to fulfil; this is the atmosphere at Spyker, the Dutch maker of exclusive supercars.
It was almost to be expected that something like this would happen, and it has: nobody likes it, but that’s the way things are; if we want Spyker to stay with us longer, we’d better swallow the fact that its best model so far will not be produced. The Spyker C12 Zagato was that model (header photo). The company had invested a large sum of money in its development and creation, as well as in researching the 6.0 W12 engine of Volkswagen origin that would produce 500 CV (although, luckily, this will be used in the D12).
For the moment the company will limit itself to producing its best-selling and cheapest-to-build model, the C8. The launch of the SSUV D12 has been postponed until 2008, since for now it is preferable to give a clear path to the C8.
Let’s hope this turns out well, that the green numbers return and that Spyker keeps giving us good cars. Either way, the loss of a car designed by Zagato is hard to swallow; one only has to look at other of their famous creations to realise how transcendent their designs are.
