Hankook equips the new BMW M5 with its high-performance Ventus S1 evo Z tyres
When Hankook’s engineering meets the excellence of BMW, the result is the Ventus S1 evo Z, a tyre that transforms the M5 into a precision machine
Hankook never ceases to surprise us, and to that end it has taken a further step in the automotive sector by equipping the new BMW M5 with its ultra-high-performance tyre, the Ventus S1 evo Z. This tyre has been designed specifically for the seventh generation of the iconic performance saloon, which for the first time in its 40-year history combines the power of a V8 engine with an electric motor, delivering a total of 727 CV and a peak torque of 1000 Nm.
The development of tyres for the BMW M5 required a bespoke solution due to the unique demands of this plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model. With a high load-carrying capacity to support the additional weight of the electric motor, and performance optimised for transmitting power, the Ventus S1 evo Z ensures dynamic and safe driving, both on the road and on the track.

Tyres tuned for greater precision and agility
The design of these tyres aims to enhance the agile and precise response of the steering, which is essential in a vehicle such as the BMW M5. The front tyres come in 285/40 ZR20, while the rear tyres have been matched to 295/35 ZR21, allowing efficient transmission of lateral forces and maximum grip through corners. In addition, Hankook has incorporated a hybrid aramid belt to prevent unwanted expansion of the tyre at high speeds, ensuring optimal performance even above 300 km/h.
The tyres also stand out for their low rolling resistance, which contributes to more efficient energy consumption, a crucial factor in electric and hybrid vehicles such as this BMW M5.

Advanced technology and circuit testing
The development process for the Ventus S1 evo Z included the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to optimise the distribution of forces across the tyre, particularly in demanding corners. Testing was carried out not only in virtual simulations but also on high-level tracks such as the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring and the Nardò high-speed circuit, where the tyre demonstrated its ability to deliver balanced driving between dynamism, safety and comfort.
In addition to the summer tyre option, Hankook offers a winter version, the iON i*cept, designed specifically for cold climates. Originally developed for electric vehicles, this tyre is prepared for the high torque of the BMW M5 and offers excellent performance on wet, snowy or icy roads. Like its summer counterpart, these winter tyres carry the 3PMSF certification, which confirms their effectiveness in winter conditions.
