MAN starts production of electric trucks at its Polish plant in Kraków

The truck and bus manufacturer MAN has recently announced its intention to invest one billion euros in its Polish plant in Kraków, with the aim of thereby increasing its production capacity and preparing the site for the brand’s next generation of heavy vehicles. This strategic commitment will make Kraków the company’s second production centre for electric trucks, reinforcing its commitment to the transition towards sustainable mobility.

The investment was formalised through a “Memorandum of Understanding” signed with the Polish Government, in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Finance of this Eastern European country. The resources will be allocated to expanding the facilities, modernising processes and advancing the electrification of manufacturing.

Series production of the eTGL model will begin in July, and the new eTGM for the medium-truck segment will be added over the course of the year. In this way, Kraków joins the Munich plant, where the heavy eTGX and eTGS models are already manufactured. With these four vehicles, MAN will offer a fully electric range covering gross vehicle weights from 12 to 50 tonnes, ideal for both urban distribution and long-haul transport.

MAN’s plant in Kraków is gaining weight in the company’s strategy

Until 2030, the company’s efforts will focus on the physical expansion of the plant. A bodywork shop and a paint shop will be built, in addition to increasing cab production capacity. The total area of the complex will almost double, rising from 130 thousand to approximately 270 thousand square metres.

In parallel, the plant is also being adapted to produce future trucks based on the TRATON Modular System (TMS), the group’s modular system that seeks to standardise and optimise production across all TRATON brands. These actions form part of the “MAN2030+” programme, which aims to modernise the European production network and prepare it for the next generations of vehicles.
