Mercedes-Benz Clase E 300 e, the plug-in hybrid saloon arrives in Spain from 65,750 euros

Following the Clase E 300 de, Mercedes launches the plug-in hybrid variant and the petrol-engined E 300 e in our country, with exceptional performance and consumption

As with the rest of the brands, Mercedes has also gradually begun the electrification of its model range. Proof of this is the arrival of the EQ family and the addition of hybrid models to the conventional range, such as the Clase S 560 e. After the latter arrived, Mercedes decided it was time to add a bit of spark to the Clase E, and to that end announced two interesting plug-in hybrid options.

While most brands opt for hybrid powertrains that combine an electric motor with a petrol engine, Mercedes wants to give diesel a bit more life, as it considers that it can still have a lot to say, especially when combined with an electric motor that can reduce its emissions. That is why the Clase E offers the E 300 e and the E 300 de, the latter with a little more time on the market.

The Mercedes-Benz Clase E 300 de has been available to order in our country since late last year, a vehicle that combines great performance with consumption and emissions that could be considered ridiculously low. The plug-in hybrid range of the Clase E will now be complete with the arrival of the petrol-engined E 300 e, which offers higher power than its diesel sibling but with higher consumption and emissions, although these will also turn out to be very low levels.

The Mercedes-Benz Clase E 300 e features a 2,000 cc four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 211 CV and 350 Nm of torque, which together with the electric motor’s 90 kW results in a combined output of 320 CV and a maximum combined torque of 700 Nm, also paired with the 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic gearbox that sends all this power to the rear axle. Its combined consumption will be 2.1 l/100 km, with combined CO2 emissions of 48 g/km, also allowing up to 50 km of range in fully electric mode, which earns it the ECO label.

It has a battery which, for this new generation of Mercedes hybrids, has been improved to increase its capacity to 13.5 kWh, with the advantage that its size remains the same, so its installation does not change, all thanks to a modified chemical composition of its cells. It can be charged from 10 to 100% in just 1.5 hours using the built-in 7.4 kW charger and the Mercedes Wallbox, offered at 1,600 euros plus taxes and installed by Endesa thanks to the agreement with the German brand, in addition to an exclusive tariff giving us 1,500 kWh per year for zero euros if we charge the car between 1:00 and 7:00.

In terms of driving, the Mercedes-Benz Clase E 300 e features cive driving modes and four operating modes, which vary to deliver power in different ways and save energy accordingly. In any case, if we want to achieve maximum balance between efficiency and comfort, the modes to choose are Economy and Comfort, where, thanks to the study carried out on the assistance systems, radars and cameras it is equipped with, it can offer exceptional anticipatory driving.

In addition, we will have an ECO assistant at our disposal that guides us at all times to drive efficiently, thanks to visual and haptic signals on the accelerator pedal. If we follow the indications on the instrument cluster and the resistance points we feel on the accelerator, so we know how far we can accelerate at any given moment, we can gradually increase the distance travelled without consuming fuel and, consequently, without emitting exhaust gases.

The Mercedes-Benz Clase E 300 e is now available to order in Spain, while deliveries to customers will begin in April, at a starting price of 65,750 euros including taxes.
