Mercedes-Benz expands its electric truck range with new variants of the eActros 600

The eActros 600 is Mercedes-Benz’s flagship bet for the transition towards sustainable mobility in the heavy-duty freight transport sector and other applications.

The Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles division has just announced the upcoming availability of new versions of the eActros 600, its flagship for long-haul freight transport, which will be available to order from next autumn. At the same time, the company plans to end production of the eActros 300/400 models at the end of this year, a change from its original strategy.

The eActros 600, whose production began at the end of 2024, is being renewed with additional variants featuring different wheelbases, as well as a new configuration with two battery packs instead of the usual three, each of 207 kWh with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. The company is thus seeking to adapt to the needs of all its customers, offering greater flexibility in applications where payload or range are priorities. In addition, new cab and roof options will be introduced to further personalise the vehicle.

All these eActros 600 variants will share a common technological platform, with LFP batteries, an 800-volt architecture, a newly designed electric axle and the Interactive 2 multimedia cab. Production will begin this same year at the Wörth am Rhein plant, where the eActros 600 is assembled on a single line alongside diesel trucks, thanks to a significant investment made by the company to improve flexibility in the production process. Unlike the eActros 300/400, which required mixed assembly to integrate electric components, production of the eActros 600 is much more efficient.

A success story

Mercedes-Benz took its first steps in the electric truck market in 2021 with the eActros 300/400, designed for the distribution sector. Subsequently, in 2022, it launched the eEconic, aimed at municipal applications. Both models, which share a platform, use nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries, with capacities of 315 kWh and 420 kWh, respectively. With the now announced end of production of the eActros 300/400, the German manufacturer will almost entirely commit to the LFP battery technology used in the eActros 600. And we say almost entirely because Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the eEconic will remain in production.

From the end of 2025, the new versions of the eActros 600 with two battery packs and a total capacity of approximately 414 kWh could replace the eActros 300/400 in the distribution segment. In addition, in 2026 a limited series of the eArocs 400, designed for urban construction applications and presented at Bauma 2025, will be launched. This model will incorporate key components of the eActros 600, such as the LFP battery packs.

“We want to accelerate the decarbonisation of transport by electrifying more and more applications. Our customers’ requirements are varied, especially in terms of payload and range. With these new variants, based on the robustness of the eActros 600, we aim to offer modular solutions that allow our customers to manage their operations efficiently.”
