Mercedes-Benz unveils its plans to become 100% electric by 2030
Mercedes will phase out all its combustion models and become 100% electric by 2030, with an investment of 40,000 million euros

The German giant based in Stuttgart has just unveiled its strategy to become a fully electric brand by 2030. With this, it joins a host of brands that have already brought forward their dates for switching to electrification, such as Audi, Opel, Ford or Jaguar, among many others.
The race to become the brand of the electric future is in full swing, which is why Mercedes-Benz will invest 40,000 million euros to carry out its plan, as Ola Källenius, CEO of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz, pointed out, with the aim of guaranteeing the company’s profitability.
Several points
The first step is just around the corner, as the star brand wants to have 2022 electric vehicles across all the segments in which the brand is present, a completely feasible goal since, as we already know, this very year 2021 Mercedes will launch four electric models, including the EQS.

Three new platforms
By 2025, Mercedes will develop three new platforms dedicated solely and exclusively to electrified vehicles, so as to have a platform for electric vehicles in every segment.
The first platform is called MB.EA, which will be aimed at medium and large vehicles. The second is called AMG.EA, which, as its name suggests, will focus on electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance division, AMG. Last but not least, the other platform they will launch will be called VAN.EA, intended for electrified vans and commercial vehicles.

To manufacture its electric vehicles, Mercedes will naturally need a large number of batteries, so it intends to open eight new gigafactories together with its partners, where it will produce state-of-the-art batteries capable of storing up to 200 gigawatt-hours.
The days of combustion versions are numbered, since investment in combustion engines and plug-in hybrid technologies will be reduced by 80% by 2026.

Expansion of the charging network
Another area to which Mercedes intends to pay attention is charging stations, in order to supply energy to its models. To that end, it will launch a new charging standard called Plug & Charge, which will allow customers to plug in, charge and unplug their vehicle without verification checks or payment processing hassles. This system will debut with the long-awaited EQS, scheduled for the end of this year, which we have already mentioned.
One of Mercedes’s major partners in expanding its charging network is Shell, with which it will jointly expand the network by 30,000 more charging points to be ready for 2025.
