More versatile: Seat León ST 4Drive

Seat has just announced new versions within the León range. These are two options available on the estate models, whose main appeal lies in their all-wheel drive system.
In this way, the León range further increases its practical possibilities, adapting to the needs of virtually any buyer. At Highmotor we have already tried it, you can read the road test here.
It has been a long time since Seat gave the León all-wheel drive. In fact, the second generation of the Spanish compact never had it, so we have to go back to the first generation, which could be fitted with an all-wheel drive system aimed at the more performance-oriented and sporty versions, such as the legendary León 1.8 20VT 4.

On this occasion, the Spanish brand is changing its approach, offering all-wheel drive in combination with two diesel engines and, for now, only with the estate bodywork. The all-wheel drive does not compromise the practicality of this model, which still offers one of the largest boots in its segment.
The all-wheel drive system that Seat has fitted to the León ST 4Drive consists of a 5th-generation Haldex multi-plate clutch with hydraulic actuation and electronic control. This gives the system a very fast response time, allowing it to engage and disengage the rear axle in a matter of hundredths of a second, transmitting just the right amount of power to the rear wheels.
All-wheel drive will be available in combination with the 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI diesel engines, producing 105 and 150 CV respectively. Performance figures are, for the 1.6 TDI, 0-100 km/h in 12 seconds, with a top speed of 187 km/h. The more powerful engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 211 km/h.

Fuel consumption is not especially affected by the addition of all-wheel drive, since the 1.6 TDI has an official average consumption of 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres, while the 2.0 TDI has a combined consumption of 4.8 litres per 100 km.
These versions will go on sale in our country in April 2014 for the 1.6 TDI, and in the summer with the 2.0 TDI engine.
