New Audi A4 2019: new look and new Mild Hybrid engines
In autumn the new Audi A4 arrives, with a major update that brings design changes, the introduction of MMI touch and new engines, including Mild Hybrid versions.
After four years on the market, the Audi A4 was due a restyling. And in this case it is not just a slight change of image. The most popular model of the four-rings brand in the world now looks sportier. It also receives the MMI touch operating concept, with touchscreens in the interior.

The improvements do not stop there. In the engine range of the new Audi A4 2019 there are three Mild Hybrid versions of output, to which two more will be added in a few months, so there will be five engine choices for the Audi A4 with ECO label.
The exterior and interior changes of the new Audi A4
Outside, the new Audi A4 features a grille that takes on even more prominence. The shapes have also been accentuated so that the wheel arches look more muscular.
Customers can choose from 12 body colours, and new interior packs called design selection and S line arrive, which the customer can freely combine with the S line and black line exterior styling (the latter for the A4 Avant). For all versions, the standard headlights include LED technology, and on the top-of-the-range models Matrix LED headlights with automated high beam are available.

Inside, like every new Audi model, the A4 also abandons the classic rotary dial in favour of the MMI touch system, with a high-resolution TFT touchscreen measuring 10.1 inches diagonally.
Logically, the new Audi A4 also gets all the multimedia, connectivity and driver assistance systems we have seen in the brand’s latest models, such as the Audi Q8 or the Audi Q3. Among them, the full range of online services from Audi connect and Audi connect plus. Driver assistance features are grouped into three packages: Tour, City and Park.

For the instrumentation, Audi offers up to three options. The conventional version with analogue dials is joined by one that combines analogue and digital instrumentation, while the top-of-the-range option is the Audi virtual cockpit plus, with 12.3 inches and full HD resolution.
Engines with mild hybrid technology
For the autumn launch, the new Audi A4 range will offer seven engines, covering a power range from the 110 kW (150 CV) of the A3 35 TFSI to the 255 kW (347 CV) of the new S4 TDI. New versions will be added months later, until a complete range is reached as follows:
- A4 30 TDI: 2.0 TDI 100 kW (136 CV)
- A4 35 TDI: 2.0 TDI 120 kW (163 CV)
- A4 40 TDI: 2.0 TDI 140 kW (190 CV)
- A4 35 TFSI: 2.0 TFSI 110 kW (150 CV) Mild Hybrid
- A4 40 TFSI: 2.0 TFSI 140 kW (190 CV) Mild Hybrid
- A4 45 TFSI: 2.0 TFSI 180 kW (245 CV) Mild Hybrid
- S4 TDI: 3.0 TDI 255 kW (347 CV)
All engines, both the four-cylinder units and the V6 TDI of the new S4, comply with the Euro 6d-temp emissions standard. Depending on the engine chosen, the transmission can be manual or automatic S tronic and tiptronic, and versions are available with front-wheel drive or quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi has made changes to the chassis of the new Audi A4 to achieve even sportier dynamic behaviour without sacrificing comfort. A sport option is available as an alternative to the standard setup, as well as two types of adaptive suspension: a more comfortable one (lowering ride height by 10 mm) and a clearly more dynamic one (lowering the suspension by 23 mm).
Audi S4: diesel power
An important novelty is the move to diesel engines in the S4 and S4 Avant versions. The 3-litre V6 TDI combines a conventional turbocharger with an electric compressor, and a 48-volt Mild Hybrid system, compared with the 12-volt system fitted to the four-cylinder A4 Mild Hybrids (the 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI).

With 347 CV of power, 700 Nm of maximum torque, and paired with an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox, the S4, available as saloon and Avant, can accelerate to 100 km/h from a standing start in 4.8 seconds, just a tenth of a second more than the petrol TFSI S4 versions that will continue to be offered in some markets outside Europe. As with all Audi “S” models, quattro all-wheel drive is included, which can be complemented by the sport rear differential.

Audi A4 allroad quattro: the alternative to SUVs
The new A4 family could not be without the interesting A4 allroad version, which receives all the aesthetic and mechanical improvements of the rest of the range, and can be chosen with one petrol and two diesel engines.

Here, quattro all-wheel drive and 35 mm more ground clearance allow the A4 allroad to become a serious alternative to SUVs when it comes to leaving the tarmac. It can be fitted with an optional damping-control suspension specific to the allroad, which is visually distinguished by underbody protection and wheel arch trims.
