New Fiat 500 3+1 and we add a new asymmetric car to the list

Because sometimes two doors are not enough, FIAT adds one to the 500 3+1, the evolution as the most practical city car and, from now on, electric

Welcome to the club of asymmetrical cars, vehicles that do not follow the rule of mirroring on either side of the axis, a visual and structural discrepancy from the driver’s side to the passenger’s side, cars that, due to their architecture, would be different if cut in half, and to which the new FIAT 500 3+1 joins examples such as the disruptive Hyundai Veloster, the misunderstood Nissan Cube or the unattainable Ferrari Monza SP1.

The Italian brand, which is finalizing the arrival at dealerships of the new chapter of the FIAT 500 exclusively as an electric car and, with it, its reformulation as the FIAT 500e, where the number zero and the letter e merge, the new FIAT 500 3+1 is the new pillar, alongside the convertible or coupé bodies with ‘only’ two side doors presented, adding a discreet and small door more.

In fact, the Italian manufacturer is based on the transition toward the maturity of its customers, on the daily stress of their lives, on the accumulation of responsibilities and on the need for new solutions for modern life. In their own words, a quote worth recovering: “a working mother or father, overwhelmed by taking one or more children to school in the morning before going to work, then taking them to their dance or language class in the afternoon, while maintaining their own personal commitments. That customer has therefore become a family that needs interiors that are more accessible (…) That is where the New 500 3+1 comes into play. Entirely new, fully electric and with an additional door. But it is still a 500.”

This is, in short, the new FIAT 500 3+1 has the door that makes room for the same concept of the 500 as always but making access easier and expanding its options, now even as a family car, electric and with the same appeal and charm as the bodies announced for its new stage as a 100 percent electric-only car.

Reinventing the wheel

Far from wanting to take credit for inventing something that had already been tested and put into practice, what the FIAT engineering team has done is take inspiration from that simple yet masterful solution which allowed that 1957 500 to open its two only cabin access doors with hinges installed at the rear of the frame, making entry and exit from the car much more practical, especially considering that the FIAT 500 has always been synonymous with a family and affordable car, particularly in those years after the Second World War.

Be that as it may, the war is now a different one and the economy drives everything, including what customers demand and, although rear-hinged doors and also opposing-opening doors seem to appear, disappear and resurface seasonally or with trends, now and, adding 30 kilograms to the weight of the standard bodywork without affecting the behavior or consumption of this electric car, this new FIAT 500 3+1 will arrive in 2021 starting with the editions named as in the case of the new FIAT 500e La Prima Cabrio and FIAT 500e La Prima coupé

If its bodywork is already curious in itself, the colors offered for the first edition of this car are no less so: Rose Gold, Glacier Blue or Onyx Black.

In addition, the finish of the special launch edition will include full LED headlights on the exterior, a set of 17-inch two-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels, and chrome accents on the windows and sides.

As for the interior, its occupants will sit in seats which, like the dashboard and steering wheel, are covered in vegan leather. Furthermore, to highlight the exclusive character of this FIAT 500 3+1 La Prima, the manufacturer’s name along with the “la Prima” emblem will be displayed on the console.
