New Opel Corsa GSI: back to the roots

With the chassis inherited from the OPC version and a 1.4 Turbo engine producing 150 CV, the new Opel Corsa GSI offers combined driving fun and a very “racing” look, without giving up the practicality of a car for everyday use.

At Opel they continue launching their new GSI versions. After the Opel Insignia GSI, it is now the turn of the new Opel Corsa GSI, of which the brand has revealed some first images.

And the return of the GSI badge at Opel seems to us a fantastic idea. So is offering the GSI Line trim on some models in the range, for those who want that touch of sportiness only in the styling, but do not need large doses of power or a specially configured chassis to be cornering all day long. Corsa GSI: tuned at the Nürburgring

The new Corsa GSI inherits the sporty chassis of its “big brother”, the Corsa OPC. Let us recall that the Corsa OPC plays in a different “league” with its 1.6 Turbo engine producing 207 CV. In the GSI, under the bonnet we find the 1.4 Turbo we recently tested in the Astra GSI Line, with its 150 CV of power and a maximum torque of 220 Nm.

In this way, the Corsa GSI would sit one rung below the radical OPC in performance and also in price. A top speed of 207 km/h is announced, with a 0-100 km/h time of just 8.9 seconds. Average consumption stands at 6.2 l/100 km. A performance that combines with the agile steering feel that gives a chassis clearly oriented towards sporty driving. And for this, in Opel they boast of the tuning at the Nürburgring, which is no small guarantee.

Externally, the new Opel Corsa GSI stands out with an almost as aggressive look as the Corsa OPC, with details such as the red-painted brake calipers, the front air intakes framed in silver, the honeycomb grille, the rear spoiler and the chrome exhaust outlet. The 18-inch alloy wheels will be optional in this case. Inside, although also an option, the Recaro seats will not be missing.
