Peugeot 208 and 2008: now with 3D i-Cockpit

In their new Peugeot 208 and 2008, Peugeot debuts an evolution of the i-Cockpit, with an innovative holographic 3D digital instrument cluster

Controversial at launch, and not to everyone’s liking, the i-Cockpit of Peugeot has ended up becoming standard on most models of the lion brand.

The “i-Cockpit” concept actually refers to a driving position in which the steering wheel is very small and sits low, with the instrument cluster positioned above it. The main advantage is that the driver has to take their eyes off the road less to check the instruments, since they fall within the driver’s field of vision towards the road.

On the other hand, depending on the model and the driver’s height, it can be harder to find a fully comfortable driving position without ending up obscuring some part of the instrument cluster.

Be that as it may, the i-Cockpit has evolved and has been successfully adopted not only in small models, where it debuted. This layout has many possibilities in MPVs, and it has also demonstrated its advantages in the new Peugeot 508.

Graphics and 3D holograms

Now, for the new Peugeot 208 and Peugeot 2008, the i-Cockpit adds an interesting innovation in the digital instrument cluster.

To make the information the driver receives clearer, the i-Cockpit 3D projects data according to its urgency or importance, in the form of a dynamic hologram that brings the information closer to the eye. Depending on the brand, this can reduce the driver’s reaction time by up to half a second in critical situations.

In addition to the 208 and 2008, the Peugeot i-Cockpit 3D is also fitted to the respective electric versions of these models, in which case representations of the energy flow of the propulsion system are added directly on the central screen.
