Peugeot will step up its greener offensive this autumn with the 508 SW Hybrid

The new Peugeot 508 SW Hybrid will arrive this autumn with a range of 40 kilometres in 100% electric mode and a total output of 225 CV.

The world is changing in many respects, which is why the automotive sector is trying to keep pace. To this end, brands such as Peugeot have decided to include vehicles with both hybrid and electric powertrains in their model range. The recently presented 208 has led this offensive with a powertrain that dispenses with any fuel to make room for electricity, but its bigger brother, the 508, wants to follow in its wake. To this end, the lion brand has just announced that the SW Hybrid variant of its flagship saloon will arrive very soon, combining practicality with efficiency.

To be more specific, it will be next autumn when Peugeot launches the first hybrid version of the 508 SW onto the market. As with its fastback sibling, the SW will be able to run in electric mode and have extra power, two features typical of plug-in hybrid vehicles.

With this premise, the French brand will introduce the 508 SW Hybrid as its fourth vehicle with electric technology, after the 208, 2008 and 3008 Hybrid. However, they will not be the only ones, as Peugeot is expected to roll out this new type of powertrain across more models in the range as they are renewed, which could also lead the 508 itself to offer a 100% electric version.

In the meantime, the SW Hybrid will be responsible for offering low consumption and lower CO2 emissions, along with a load capacity notably higher than that of the 208 and 2008, with 530 litres of storage. At the same time, these three features are complemented by a matching powertrain, which will allow its users to enjoy a range of 40 kilometres in 100% electric mode and more than sufficient power.

The engineers at Peugeot have decided to equip the 508 SW Hybrid with the 180 CV PureTech petrol engine, a figure that rises to 225 CV thanks to a 110 CV electric motor. Although the total figure is closer to that of a performance-oriented car than to a family hybrid, the 508 SW Hybrid will qualify for the Zero Emissions sticker.

For now, Peugeot has not revealed prices for this new hybrid variant of its 508, but considering the 44,550 euros that the Fastback Hybrid costs, we can assume this SW version will be slightly more expensive. In this way, the French brand aims to further consolidate the hybrid segment by showing that efficient, low-emission powertrains can be combined with a practical body suited to all kinds of buyers.
