Renault Fluence Z.E., the definitive version

The Fluence Z.E. has been much talked about. It was presented at Frankfurt 2009, but most of the technical details of the successor to the Mégane Saloon were still unknown. Now we have those technical details, and we know it is the first C-segment vehicle to go into series production.

The electric version of the Fluence is slightly larger than its conventional-engine sibling, measuring 4.75 metres in length. This is because the batteries had to fit behind the rear seats. Even so, the design has been revised so as not to lose the essence of the original.

Much had been speculated about the engine, which will ultimately be a synchronous motor with a wound rotor. Its maximum power of 70 kW (95 CV) is reached at 11,000 rpm, and its maximum torque reaches 226 Nm. The good news is that the torque is available very early.

The battery is particularly interesting: it will be a lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 22 kWh. It will also feature an energy recovery system for deceleration. Incidentally, it can be recharged from the domestic grid without any problem in about 6 to 8 hours.
