Slate Auto begins sales in the United States of its low-cost electric pickup from $24,950

With its first electric models, Slate Auto is determined to democratize electric mobility in the United States, combining simplicity, modularity and realistic prices.

Slate Auto has just announced the official prices for the US market of the first two models in its electric range. They are a pickup and an SUV, available from $24,950 and $29,950, respectively. These highly competitive prices reflect the brand’s philosophy, which prioritizes simplicity by eliminating elements such as touchscreens or even standard power windows in order to keep the vehicles affordable.

Founded in 2022, Slate Auto spent three years developing these vehicles until their official unveiling in April 2025. The company’s core proposition is offering electric vehicles at affordable prices, starting with the Slate Truck, a two-seat pickup that stands out for its modular design. Thanks to this system, it can easily be converted into a five-seat SUV according to the user’s needs.

Although Slate Auto initially promised prices below 20 thousand dollars thanks to the federal tax credit of 7,500 dollars for electric vehicles in force at the time, the current reality of the market has forced the company to readjust its launch price to more realistic figures.

The Slate Truck in its pickup version embraces a highly minimalist approach, doing without touchscreens, which are so common in any vehicle today, and even without speakers and power windows. The windows open and close manually by turning a crank, as in vehicles from several decades ago.

No more and no less than what the vast majority of customers need

As for its technical specifications, it has a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 135 kW and 264 Nm of torque, paired with a 65 kWh LFP battery, with 63 kWh usable. According to the manufacturer, this model offers an EPA range of up to 330 km. AC charging takes four hours at 11 kW, while DC charging requires 30 minutes with a maximum supported power of 120 kW. It is also worth noting that it comes standard with a NACS connector, which will make charging away from home easier. These specifications are common to all versions, including the SUV Squareback and Fastback variants.

In terms of capabilities, the pickup supports a payload of around 700 kg, while the SUV is rated at 573 kg. Both models share a gross weight of 2.58 tonnes and compact dimensions, measuring 4.43 m long, 1.79 m wide and 1.72 m high. The cargo bed at the rear of the pickup version is 1.54 metres long.

Slate Auto says it has already registered more than 180 thousand reservations for both variants, although it should be remembered that these are non-binding commitments that only require a payment of 50 dollars. For firm orders, a deposit of 300 dollars is required, and the first deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Equip it to your taste

To personalize the vehicles, Slate offers more than 200 accessories in its Marketplace, most of them affordably priced below 500 dollars, including roof racks, audio systems or seat covers. In addition, more than 100 vinyl wrap colours are available to change the exterior appearance of the vehicle for less than 500 dollars.

Finally, it should be noted that Slate Auto targets a practical audience, promoting “do-it-yourself” repairs with guides provided by the manufacturer itself. In any case, the vehicle includes a 10-year or 110,000-mile warranty (almost 178 thousand kilometres) for the battery and powertrain, and the manufacturer has an initial network of 3,000 RepairPal workshops spread throughout the United States.
