SsangYong SUVs with ECO label: the best solution, LPG

If you are looking for an SUV that does it all, is well equipped, can be used without restrictions in the city and won’t cost you a fortune to buy, you should pay attention to SsangYong’s ECO range, which includes the Tívoli and XLV GLP AutoGas models.

SsangYong’s commitment to SsangYong to LPG (liquefied petroleum gas, also known as AutoGas) is firm… and a winner. Many millions of vehicles around the world run on this fuel, which offers countless advantages.

AutoGas: LPG is all advantages

Among them, the one that is the greatest motivation for users to buy is that it allows a considerable saving in the cost per kilometre driven, compared with petrol or diesel. Thanks to the lower price of this fuel, the saving can amount to up to 40%. A very important fact to keep in mind.

And, in addition, with a lower impact on the environment, greatly reducing emissions of harmful gases. Not to mention a feature that increasingly leads more users to consider this type of model: the advantages that cars running on LPG gain from having the DGT ECO label . Let us just recall a few of the most important: freedom of movement in cities when pollution restriction protocols are activated, reduced parking rates, special prices on some toll roads, or the possibility of driving in the BUS/HOV lane.

The saving in cost per kilometre that LPG allows compared with conventional fuels such as petrol or diesel can reach up to 40%.

Another additional advantage of bi-fuel AutoGas cars, such as those in SsangYong’s ECO range, is their great range. Since they have two tanks and can run on either gas or petrol, refuelling stops can be spaced further apart, as in the case of SsangYong they are capable of covering up to 1,200 km on a single tank. And, in case you didn’t know, there are already more than 600 AutoGas refuelling points in Spain, and more than 33,000 in Europe.

If those seem few, we will add one more advantage. At present, Repsol offers, as part of its Repsol Más programme, the chance to benefit from €400 of free fuel to redeem at Repsol, Campsa or Petronor service stations. Any buyer of a new AutoGas SsangYong can take advantage of this promotion, until 28 February. From 1 March to 30 April, the fuel discount will be €350.

How does an LPG or AutoGas car work?

If the advantages of cars running on this type of fuel appeal to you, you need not worry about anything else. In practical terms, an LPG car drives exactly like a car with a petrol or diesel engine. The only difference is that the driver has a button that lets them choose whichever fuel they want to use at any given moment, switching from AutoGas to petrol whenever they wish. Behind the wheel, there is no change in either the vehicle’s performance or what the driver feels when driving.

You will only notice it is an LPG car… when it is time to stop at the pump, where your wallet will be grateful. Nor should refuelling be a concern. Refuelling is quick, easy and safe, using hoses with a special nozzle, but in much the same way as with petrol or diesel.

Bear in mind that the AutoGas vehicles in SsangYong’s ECO range are petrol vehicles that have undergone a small conversion to make them bi-fuel, with a gas tank and a dedicated fuel supply system installed.

Breakdowns? The system not only requires no additional maintenance, but because of the gas’s own characteristics and how it burns, AutoGas engines suffer less wear and tend to offer a longer service life.

SsangYong ECO SUVs: Tívoli and XLV with AutoGas

Two models are offered by SsangYong set up to run on AutoGas: the recently updated SsangYong Tívoli and XLV. Both use the reliable 1.6 petrol engine with variable valve timing, which produces 128 CV at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 160 Nm at 4,600 rpm. In both cases you can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, depending on the trim level.

SsangYong XLV

Thanks to its dimensions and design, the SsangYong Tívoli plays the more “adventurous” role. It measures 4.02 metres long, 1.80 wide and 1.59 high. It is agile and fun in the city, but neither in performance nor in chassis does it shy away when winding roads or long journeys come along. To that end, besides a very well-used interior, it has a boot with a capacity of 423 litres, expandable to 1,115 litres by folding down the second-row seats.

SsangYong XLV

The SsangYong XLV, for its part, is the ideal family SUV for those who need extra luggage space. At 4.40 metres long, boot capacity rises here to 720 litres with all seats in use, which can become 1,440 litres when cargo takes priority.

The top of the range is the Tívoli G16 GLP 4×2 Limited Automatic, priced at €21,590.

In between, we particularly highlight the Premium version for its price/equipment ratio. It costs €17,150, but you won’t miss a thing. It includes everything from an 8-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to mixed fabric and leather upholstery, plus a rear-view camera, 16-inch alloy wheels and roof rails. With the Limited trim, the equipment adds, among other things, the SsangYong Active Safety System (SASS), 18-inch alloy wheels, the Supervision instrumentation or the two-tone bodywork finish.

SsangYong XLV

As for the SsangYong XLV, it is available in the same trims as the Tívoli. The base Line version costs €17,450, the Premium costs €19,600, and the Limited stays at €21,400, €2,000 more if the automatic gearbox is fitted.
