Ten things you don't know about the BMW iX1 and need to know

We have already talked about the combustion-engine versions of the BMW X1, but now we focus on the electric and plug-in hybrid versions.

The new BMW X1 is about to reach the market, a model that will arrive with several versions and different powertrains. We have already reviewed many of the things you can find out about this model and what each of these versions will offer, but we are going to give you a few tips to get to know it better. Let’s go.

The BMW X1 is built at the plant located in the German city of Regensburg. At this plant, this model is the one that has managed to have combustion-engine models, both pure and plug-in hybrid, as well as electric vehicles come off its assembly line. Another curious detail about the model is that there are versions with 48-volt mild hybridisation and petrol and diesel engines. There is also a plug-in hybrid version and, finally, the top of the range. This is the BMW iX1 xDrive30, which is electric.

In this case, we find two electric motors, one on each axle, which offer a combined output of 313 CV and a torque of 494 Nm. All versions offer a great driving experience, but in the case of the electric variant it is outstanding, thanks to its performance.

The BMW iX1 xDrive30 features a 64.7 kWh lithium-ion battery. It can be charged at 11 kW or, optionally, at 22 kW. If you opt for DC fast charging at 130 kW, it is possible to reach 80% in about 30 minutes. With this battery it offers a range of between 413 and 438 kilometres.

The all-wheel drive of the BMW iX1 is not designed to take it off the road, but rather aims to offer stability and traction when they are needed. The standard limited-slip differential allows it to overcome obstacles that another car of its characteristics could not overcome so easily.

The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time is 5.7 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h.

The interior has a modern look, with a curved instrument display that shows all the information the driver needs. The interior is spacious and the boot can expand from 540 litres up to 1,600 litres. As for equipment, it not only has a two-zone climate control, but also a leather steering wheel, the navigation system of BMW and several premium options, such as the rain sensor.

As for the practical differences with the previous version, we find a lighter but more rigid body. It also has a longer wheelbase and wider tracks. Both axles have been redesigned to improve handling and make the driving experience more enjoyable. And if you add the M Sport configuration, you get an M suspension with adjustable stiffness, a more efficient sport steering and a 15 millimetre reduction in ground clearance.

As for alloy wheels, they come as standard in 17-inch size, although 18, 19 and 20-inch wheels are available as an option.

Turning to price, these are the three electrified variants, the two plug-in hybrids and the electric one.
