The Bentley Flying Spur gets updated and welcomes the powerful

After two years on the market, the latest generation of the Bentley Flying Spur receives an aesthetic update, but also expands its family with the S version

The Bentley Flying Spur is one of the top exponents in the luxury saloon segment, a model that just under two years ago welcomed a new generation, which by the way introduced the “Ultra Performance Hybrid” hybrid system. Now the Crewe-based brand announces an update for the Flying Spur, as well as welcoming the new “S” version.

As usually happens with this type of update, the changes focus on light styling touch-ups, which in this case for the Bentley Flying Spur are only on the exterior. Thus, at the front the grille now blends into the design of the bumper itself, while on either side there are headlights offered in two variants depending on the version chosen. Moving to the side, the design of the wheel arches and the vent located behind the front doors has been streamlined, and these can now also accommodate 22-inch wheels with new finishes that are optional for the Azure and S versions, finishing with a new boot and new rear lights.

But perhaps the most important novelty lies in the fact that Bentley expands the Flying Spur family with the new S version, which is based on the Continental GT S that the brand presented at the beginning of this year and which has become a success for the English maker. In fact, the Flying Spur S uses the same high-performance hybrid system that delivers a power output of 680 CV along with a torque of 930 Nm, meaning it is now 130 CV more powerful than the previous Flying Spur, which translates into acceleration to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 307 km/h.

All this power is accompanied by a chassis configuration that until now was only available on the Speed and Mulliner versions, employing the Bentley Performance Active Chassis technology, which includes active all-wheel drive, twin-valve dampers, torque vectoring (front-to-rear and between axles), the active anti-roll system Bentley Dynamic Ride 48 V, and a new generation of ESC control software. As if that weren’t enough, and for the first time on a Flying Spur S, the electronic limited-slip differential is also included as standard equipment.

Obviously, and so that it is clear that this is the most powerful version of the Flying Spur at Bentley, they have given it a distinctive look. To do so, it features the Blackline specification, with which gloss black makes an appearance on areas such as the lower part of both bumpers, the grilles and the Bentley lettering or logos, all complemented by the Beluga black on the mirror housings and door sills. In addition, both the matrix LED front headlights and the rear lights receive a dark tint, which is also applied to the exhaust outlets.

Bentley has confirmed that customer deliveries of the new Flying Spur will begin in most markets during the fourth quarter of this year.
