The BMW iX offers up to 494 km of range according to the EPA

The Bavarian manufacturer currently sells two versions of the 2024 BMW iX in the North American market. The more affordable of them, called xDrive50, is available in the United States from $87,100. This represents an increase of 3 thousand dollars over the same version from 2023. Additionally, those who want superior performance on the road can opt for the M60 version of the BMW iX, which in this market is available from $111,500. That is $2,600 more than the 2023 edition of this same version.

BMW sells the xDrive40 version in Europe and other markets, placing it at the entry level of this electric SUV range. However, as often happens with other models, not only from BMW, because this version has a shorter range, the Bavarian manufacturer has considered that it does not meet the requirements of its American customers and, therefore, has decided not to sell it in this market, either now or in the near future. Nevertheless, this version has also been tested by the EPA in its consumption tests, so we have the range figure estimated by this agency.

Both the xDrive50 version of the BMW iX and the M60 version are equipped with two electric motors that provide all-wheel drive. Although the latter delivers more power and torque, allowing it to reach 0-100 km/h in less time. Both also feature the same battery pack of 111.5 kWh gross, of which 106.3 kWh are usable.

One aspect that considerably draws attention in the 2024 BMW iX in the consumption and range tests carried out by the EPA is that the results obtained are identical regardless of the wheel size chosen. The manufacturer’s choice of tyres with lower rolling resistance on the larger wheels could explain this, although it is strange that the data are exactly the same and show no slight variations at all.

Thus, according to the EPA, the xDrive50 version of the 2024 BMW iX offers a range of up to 307 miles (494 km), compared with the 296 miles (476 km) of the M60 version. These figures are slightly higher than those offered by these same versions in the 2023 edition of the Bavarian manufacturer’s electric SUV. It should also be added that the xDrive40 version of the 2024 BMW iX, which as we have said is not sold in the United States, is capable of covering up to 217 miles (349 km) on a single battery charge.

Finally, it should be noted that according to BMW, a full recharge of the battery pack of the xDrive50 or M60 versions using an AC wallbox takes around 12 hours. Meanwhile, at a DC fast-charging point to increase the charge level from 10 to 80 percent takes an average of half an hour.
