BMW is preparing the electric version of the BMW M3 and wants the driver to enjoy the electric motor, but with the sound of a combustion car

We already know that we will soon be able to enjoy BMW’s high-performance range in electric form. The Neue Klasse is also coming to the M range, and the M3 will be the first of them to reach the market, bringing the sporty sensations into electric mobility as well. But this has a drawback: those who want to enjoy a car with sporting characteristics also want to feel the sound of an imposing engine.

In an electric car, this is not possible, because the sound produced by an electric motor is not exactly evocative. That is why manufacturers want the electric car to convey those sensations so that drivers feel they are behind the wheel of a spectacular car.

This electric variant will not be the only one in the brand’s lineup, as it will share space with versions equipped with combustion engines. So the competition will be fierce, not against other models, but against versions of the BMW M3 itself. The brand therefore wants the model’s drivers to feel behind the wheel of a combustion-engined car with the characteristics of a sustainable car.

To achieve this, they did not leave the car’s pre-programmed sound to software; instead, they recorded the engines of several sports cars so that the BMW M3 sounds the way a car in its category should, even without a combustion engine. To do so, they used a BMW M3 GTS and revved its 4.4-litre V8 engine. That sound was recorded and included in the sound system to shape that characteristic roar of the engine.

But it was not the only one used, as the 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine of a BMW M4 GTS and the 6.0-litre naturally aspirated engine of a BMW M6 were also recorded. With these three engines, a spectacular sound has been created that will accompany the driver when accelerating and set the pace of their electric sports car.

The video you are about to watch is precisely the sound test of this model on the BMW track, so you can get a preview of what this electric model will be like, with a sustainable heart but an impactful sound.
