The Deepal S05 arrives in Europe, and it does so eager to expand the brand across several countries

The Deepal S05 has been unveiled in Europe and will soon go on sale in several European countries, adding to the Deepal S07 offering.

Chinese brands are landing in Europe relentlessly, and it is no secret that they are taking a significant slice of the automotive pie in our market. One of those brands is Deepal, which in turn belongs to the multinational Changan. There is already a model from this brand in certain European markets, the Deepal S07, but the brand’s offering is not going to be limited to this model. The Deepal S05 has just been unveiled, a more compact SUV that will be going on sale in Europe shortly.

It will be sold in several variants, with a battery offering a capacity of 68.8 kWh, which is combined with different electric motors. The entry-level version is called RWD Pro and uses a motor that produces 268 CV and a maximum torque of 290 Nm. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration this motor delivers is rated at 7.5 seconds, and its top speed is set at 180 km/h.

The range of this variant is 485 kilometres on the WLTP cycle, more than enough for everyday use of the car. If you want more functionality, the RWD Max repeats these figures but comes with higher-level equipment. The top of the range is the AWD Max version.

This version uses two motors, one on each axle. With both motors, it achieves 429 CV and a maximum torque of 502 Nm. This allows the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration to drop to 5.5 seconds. It should be noted that the higher power draws more energy from the battery, which is the same as in the rest of the versions. As a result, this figure drops to 445, which still makes it quite appealing.

Aesthetically, it does not offer a groundbreaking look, but it is quite practical. The front and rear light clusters are fairly recognisable and make it identifiable from a distance. The interior is quite simple, without flashiness, but the cabin features a 15.4-inch screen for the information and entertainment system, two wireless charging pads for smartphones and two cup holders, which are also important.

The price of this model is set in Germany at 44,990 euros. In China, this model starts at a price of 119,900 yuan, which is equivalent to 14,900 euros. Tariffs, transport and other costs mean that the cost in Europe roughly triples, unfortunately.
