The design of the new Smart #2, successor to the legendary Smart Fortwo, is revealed
This new two-seat electric car, successor to the iconic Fortwo, will debut at the Paris Motor Show in just a couple of months.
The homologation process in China for the new Smart #2 has revealed the first official images without camouflage of this highly anticipated city model, successor to the iconic Smart Fortwo. Built on a completely new electric architecture, the world premiere of the new Smart #2 is expected to take place at the Paris Motor Show next October.
This new electric city car, the result of the joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz, is already listed in the homologation catalogue of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The file includes the first official images of the production version, which you can see in this same post, and also confirms its main technical specifications.

According to the official documents, the Smart #2 measures between 2.75 and 2.76 metres in length depending on the version, 1.67 metres in width and 1.56 metres in height, with a wheelbase of 1.88 metres. Its kerb weight is 1,130 kilograms. The electric motor it integrates is capable of delivering 60 kW, enough to reach a top speed of 140 km/h.
Other details to consider
The battery pack, on the other hand, is of the LFP type – lithium iron phosphate – with CATL cells assembled by Geely. However, the MIIT file does not detail such an important figure as its capacity. Nevertheless, some reports suggest it could be 35.7 kWh. With the #2, Smart aims to recover the essence of the original Fortwo, adapting it to the electric era with current technology.
“A legend returns […] it will be the best two-seater we have ever built”.

For the European market, the company is targeting a starting price below €22,500, placing it at the lower end of the previously indicated range of between €20,000 and €25,000. The final price will be announced during the world premiere in Paris.
The initial production will take place in China, both for the domestic market and for export to Europe and other countries. In any case, Smart does not rule out manufacturing this model in Europe in the future if sales volumes justify it.
