The eighth generation of the Porsche 911 arrives: new design and more technology, yet faithful to its principles
The eighth-generation Porsche 911 has just been unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where it has been presented with an innovative design and an extensive technological arsenal

After months of waiting and a multitude of spy videos, Porsche has finally revealed to the world the eighth generation of one of the most legendary and iconic sports cars of all time, the 911. The Stuttgart manufacturer has used the Los Angeles Auto Show to premiere this new model, which arrives with significant innovations while keeping its charismatic spirit intact. This new generation now takes over from the 991, offering a series of improvements in both design and dynamics, with the aim of striking a perfect balance between comfort and sportiness.
To fulfil this mission, the engineers at Porsche faced the demanding task of respecting the traditional lines of the 911 while at the same time incorporating a series of innovative features. This combination of tradition and modernity has been applied to the aesthetics of the German sports car, which features a series of characteristics that stem directly from the new design language used by Porsche.
An innovative design with touches of nostalgia
One of the main charms of the Porsche 911 is, without a doubt, its traditional aesthetic. Since the beginnings of this model, the engineers in Stuttgart have managed to preserve that silhouette, represented by a elongated front end and a rounded rear, where the heart of the nueveonce resides. Now, with this eighth generation, the designers have remained faithful to the most characteristic features of the sports car, but enhanced with certain modern components that seek to innovate its look.

On the one hand, we find a front end defined by a slightly more rectangular design that subtly recalls the lines of the 993. Two round LED headlights anticipate the new splitter, which is flanked by two functional and more prominent air intakes than in previous generations. The side profile seeks to convey cleanliness and subtlety, characteristics enhanced by the electric door handles, which not only offer a more refined design but also better aerodynamics.

Last but not least, we find the rear, an area that catches the eye as one of the most novel on this 911 992. The first thing that captivates us is the thin row of LED lights that join together to converge on the rear lamps, offering a single band accompanied by new badging that includes the 911 designation alongside the variant name. This clear nod to innovation is highlighted by a retractable rear spoiler, which will make its appearance both under braking and acceleration. We also notice a new diffuser, flanked by two cylindrical exhaust outlets.
A cabin that exudes sportiness and technology in equal measure
As with the exterior, Porsche has adopted an interior design that pays homage to the first 911s, but has also made room for the most cutting-edge technology. On the one hand, we find a centre console dominated by minimalism, as the engineers have dispensed with numerous buttons to make way for a new gear selector and a 10.9-inch screen housing the infotainment system, as well as the adjustment for numerous parameters.

The steering wheel remains faithful to a completely spherical design with a three-spoke layout. As for the instrument panel, we find a central sphere acting as a rev counter, flanked by two additional screens that aim to provide all kinds of information to the driver, with the goal of keeping distraction to a minimum.
Carrera S and Carrera 4S for now
It is true that the Porsche 911 is characterised by offering a generous number of variants to suit all kinds of customers but, for the time being, this eighth generation has been presented with a single engine option. The Carrera S and 4S have been chosen to introduce the new nueveonce to the market, a vehicle that already promises a high level of performance with its intermediate versions within the range.

To be more specific, both configurations are powered by a turbocharged six-cylinder flat engine -another fundamental feature of the 911- capable of producing 450 CV of power, that is, 30 CV more than the previous generation. Thanks to an improved injection process and a new design for the turbochargers and the charge-air cooling system, the engineers at the German manufacturer have managed to drastically improve the efficiency of their flagship sports car.

This translates into a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds for the Carrera S and 3.6 seconds for the 4S, performance figures complemented by top speeds of 307 and 306 km/h respectively. At the same time, Porsche has opted for an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox to successfully manage all the power this new 911 is capable of delivering.
Available from 138,105 euros in Spain
Pending details on the other 911 variants that will sit both above and below the Carrera S and Carrera 4S, Porsche has already provided us with the prices of its new sports car for our country. A minimum outlay of 138,105 euros will be required if you wish to purchase a 911 Carrera S, a figure that rises to 147,065 euros should you opt for the all-wheel-drive variant.
This is how Porsche has chosen to introduce the new 911, a vehicle that arrives packed with novelties, but with its charismatic essence fully intact. This more technological character is also due to the presence of the innovative Wet mode, which detects water on the asphalt, adapts the controls to that situation and warns the driver, a set of functions available at the touch of a button.

Porsche has also placed emphasis on safety with the presence of various driver assistance systems for the 911. Among them, we should highlight the brake assist and warning system, the Night Vision Assistant with thermal imaging camera and adaptive cruise control.
